Salaamu Alaykum,

What's his condition?  Someone asked me about him.

Barakallaahu Feekum,

Daud

Abaa Nafeesah - As-Salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.  Jazaakum Allaahu khayran for your advice and in shaa' Allaah our brother Daud is from those who love naseehah and respects the advice of his elders in shaa' Allaah.

However, as for this quote that you have posted, then it is not from the speech of Shaykh Rabee' ibn Haadee (may Allaah preserve him).  This is apparent to me due to the following affairs:

1) The person who is narrating it is unnamed, and calling on Allaah as a witness is not sufficient.

2) His narration that, "all of the students of al-albaanee are kibaar," is at the least an error in narrating, perhaps something added to the shaykh's words from the excitement of the narrator.

3) The post was deleted shortly after it appeared on sahab.net.  It was preserved by someone who posted it on SNK who did not mention the narrator, and then the SNK admin made it a sticky, may Allaah excuse them and increase them in goodness.  It may have also been posted on other message boards.

4) Those who have spread this report have never been able to bring a chain for it.  They simply have said, "Sahab is our chain, and they are thiqaat."  This is an incorrect position due to the following affairs:

  a) Members of sahab are not tested and determined to be thiqah in order to post, rather sometimes people have joined and posted lies and shubuhaat that have been refuted there.  Also, there was an occasion where at least one kaafir missionary posted things on sahab.

  b) The admin of sahab deleted that post shortly after it appeared, which is an indication of its mistaken nature, since the sahab admin are in touch with the mashaayikh and regularly consult them.

  c) If indeed all the people who post on sahab are thiqaat, for argument's sake, then I am one of them, and based on this principle, I am thiqah, so then this statement of mine must be taken(!)

5) Shaykh Rabee' has his own website, and he has posts on sahab under his own personal account, and he has not said the likes of this: "all of the students of al-albaanee are kibaar."  And the shaykh loves that the Muslims benefit from their kibaar 'ulamaa' so if this was his position, he would make it known.

6) If all the students of Al-Albaanee were kibaar, then this would include a number of falsehoods, like every single person who studied under the shaykh when he was in al-Madeenah, Sham, or elsewhere is from the kibaar, and so forth.  So even if it was from the speech of Shaykh Rabee', it would have to be restricted to a certain understanding and clarified, otherwise it would be unnacceptable.

This does not mean that the entire narration is false.  No conclusions are to be made about this post of mine except that report quoted by Abu Nafeesah has no chain and it is munkar (weak in its chain and its content is contradictory to what is authentically established).  I hope that this can be seen as an example of how applying the usool of the salaf to the people's reports helps the Muslim and keeps him from harm.  And Allaah knows best.

And when passing on important narrations that affect people's studies and their Deen, let us take care and mention the sources of our reports (as much as we know of them), so we can be free of blame: ( من أسند برئ ) Whoever relayed the (report with the) chain, then he is free (of blame, if the narration is dha'eef).

We ask Allaah to overlook our errors and grant us success in attaining what pleases Him.

Moosaa ibn John Richardson
