salaamun 'alaykum wa rahmatullaah
as to Jilbaab's question "Who is Abu Khaliyl Jadd Sylvester?" He is an American who is originally from Philidelphia. He used to publish books for the small operation Ad-Da'wah to Laa ilaaha illallaah wa Muhammadur-Rasoolullaah in Phili. Then he went to work for QSS under the leadership of Muhammad Al-Jibaly. At QSS he authored and translated a number of works for the Jam'iyah such as Straightening the Rows for Prayer, The Ruling on Isbaal, Principles of Commanding the Good and Forbidding the Evil, and so forth. He also co-authored works with Jibaly. At the same time he was the chief editor and translator for Hudaa newspaper that many of us are familiar with.
Eventually he moved to Riyadh, KSA, in August 1999 where I first met him. We worked together at Darussalam Publishers head office for two years. During that time he broke ties with Hudaa due to their refusal to stop printing adverstisements for Muhammad Adly's tapes and Books, and Abu Muflisah's tapes. There were other issues as well, but the jist of it is that the brother who was responsible for printing and distributing the paper in New York refused to take a salafi position and abandon these Hizbees.
Also, when I read to Abu Khaliyl an email from Muhammad Jibaly criticizing the scholars and students who involve themselves in Jarh and Ta'deel and it also contained some negative insinuations agains Shaikh Rabee' (hafithathullaah), Abu Khaliyl became enraged and immediately expressed to me his disavowal from Jibaly and his foolishness. He was so angry that his face turned red and he was about to cry because of the ignorance that was being stated by his former mentor against the Imaam of Jarh and Ta'deel of these times.
In reference to QSS, he was still supporting them at that time as far as I know. I don't know what his position is now since this Fitnah has occurred with Abdul-Mun'im and the Jam'iyahs position against Shaikh Rabee'. I hope to hear something from him soon to get clarity on his positions in this matters.
In reference to who he studied with, he has not studied over seas with any of the important scholars. He basically learned Islaam in America and works behind the scenes as a translator and editor.
