As Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu.

Are there any Salafi Masaajids on the West Coast?  Specifically, is Fareed Abdullah Salafi?

Jazakum Allahu Khyran wa Barak Allahu Feekum!

Alhamdulillaah wa Salawaatu wa Salam Ala Rasoolillaah wa Alaa Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Salam Wa Baudu!

With respect to your question concerning the Masjids upon Salafiyyah on the West Coast and concerning our brother in Islaam, Abu Mujaahid Fareed Ibn Yusuf Abdillaah then we shall deal with the Masjid first insha Allaah. Masjid Al-Mu'min is a masjid where the Dawatus Salafiyyah is being taught. It is the only masjid in Los Angeles where the adhan is called five times a day outside for all the Salawaat and the only masjid where there are regular halaqahs are established. There are a number of apartment buildings across the street from the masjid where the muslim community live. Some of the books that were taught at that masjid were Kitaabu Tawheed with the Sharh entitled Fathul Majeed and Tayseer Azeezul Hameed/ Usoolu Thalaatha and Lum'atul Ittiqaad and Tafseer Ibn Katheer and Subulus Salaam and a number of other great works by the Ulema. So I advise you to visit the masjid although it was struck by fire recently the brothers and sisters are trying to rebuild the roof so if you could help out financially it would be very beneficial. If you do a seach you can find the address to the masjid and its school.

With respect to Fareed then he is a graduate from Muhammad Ibn Saud University, he majored in Shariah and he was one of Ghudayaan and Bin Baz and Jibreen's students in the Jaamiah. I had the pleasure to sit with him for seven years walhamdulillah and I have never seen anything he has said in opposition to the way of the salaf. Alhamdulilah also he was very fortunate to sit with Sheikh Muqbil for a period of time while sheikh muqbil rahimahullah was in California. He spoke highly of Masjid Al-Mu'min saying that this masjid was upon the Sunnah and the way of the Salaf. Sheikh Muqbil Rahimahullah also spoke highly of Fareed after a khutbah Fareed gave concerning the Manhaj of the Salaf. And while Sheikh Muqbil Rahimahullah was in Los Angeles he used to frequent Masjid Al-Mu'min along with Abu Haatim and we used to visit Sheikh Muqbil in his hotel and in his apartment and have private sittings with the Sheikh Rahimahullah. The sheikh was two blocks away from one of the biggest masjids in Los Angeles nonetheless he would come to our masjid which was about 5 miles away. We asked the Sheikh Rahimahullah about where should we goto study this deen ? And the Sheikh Rahimahullah said, sit with Fareed!" We said alhamdulilah yaa sheikh we want to go over seas and study this deen and the sheikh said sit with Fareed. We continues asking the Sheikh about where we could go study this deen mentioning Makkah and Medinah Riyadh and the sheikh continued to mention sit with this man Fareed for he is an Imaam upon the Sunnah calling to the way of the sunnah." We remained quiet after that. i rememeber Dawood Adib saying that he had the chance to talk to Abu Haatim who was in charge of taking care of sheikh Muqbil travel arrangements and his close companion when asked about Fareed and Abu Haatim said something to this effect, "huwa qawwee" He is strong. So I advise you to go to masjid AL-Mu'min and sit in the duroos that go on and benefit from the Duroos. Wallahu Alam.

Sufyaan Ibn Uyainah used to say: Indeed the Deen is only in the Aathaar and not in opinions the Deen is in the Aathaar not in opinions...
