Bismillaah ir-Rahman ir-Raheem,

This may be getting a little far afield of the normal discussions on this board, but insha'Allaah, one of my brothers or sisters may have knowledge I do not now possess.  I am taking a seminar course that is using the fall of Rome (at whatever time you chose to believe it fell).  I am looking for a topic for my presentation in this course.  My first thought was to attempt to describe 7th centuryAH/13th century Islamic thought on Christianity and its impact on Rome.

But as I thought about it, the more I realized, I don't know enough currently to tackle such a large and complex topic.  So now, I am stuck.  I have two weeks before my class meets again.  Between now and then, I will be looking for a topic related to Rome, whether we are speaking of Rome proper or the Byzantine empire.  What works are there by Muslims on the history of Byzantium and its collapse?  Are there any works on the impact of Christianity on the fall of Rome or Byzantium?  Do we know if such a concept was even discussed?  I know that Shaykh-ul-Islaam ibn Taymiyyah in one of his many works did a refutation of popular religious practices and innovations in Syria and Egypt and that within that work he mentioned many strange beliefs held by Christians.  Are there other similar works, (not quite so dense) on similar history?  What Muslim authors are there that have tackled European or Roman history between 475 and 1300?  Barak'Allaah feekum ikhwaan for you assistance in this matter.  Every bit of help my brothers can provide me will get me closer to finishing this degree and closer to making hijrah from the country.  Jazak'Allaah khayran.

Salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakatuh,
Your brother in Islaam wa Salafiyyah,
Umar Abd-ar-Rahman at-Taalib al-Amriki

as-salaamu 'alaykum,

you might use what is available about heraclius, since i have heard him be referred to as the last emperor of the byzantines.  you could use whatever you can find in the books of tafseer on sooratur-room and the hadeeth of aboo sufyaan's visit to heraclius.  you can even show where allaah foretold of the byzantine's victory over the persians and tell how the muslims defeated them at yarmuk.

aboo husaam shaheed williams
