Jazaakum Allaahu khayran Abaa Tasneem -

May Allaah reward you for your humbleness and love for clarity, and may He increase you in goodness and make you from the imaams of the muttaqeen.

In the early to mid-seventies here in America, there existed a small group of Muslims who called themselves salafees.

They were very diligent in trying to eradicate shirk and kufr in all of their manifestations, to decimate innovations in all of its forms, distinguish the strong hadeeths from the weak ones, and dispel superstitions that had marred the name of Islaam and the beauty of the Sunnah.

They had regular classes amongst themselves, a monthly periodical, and even yearly conferences.

On a very small level they had some contact with other organizations around the world that claimed the same thing.

As-Salafiyyah.

Two of those organizations around the world were called Ansaarus Sunnah al-Muhammadiyyah based in both Egypt and the Sudaan and Iqaamatus Sunnah wa Izaalatul Bid'ah in Nigeria and Ghana.

I was one of those salafees and was proud to be considered so.

I was calling to and actively promoting it. I used to teach classes in some of the local masjids and Islaamic centers, some of the state-run prisons, in peoples homes and even in the back of restaurants!

Those classes would be conducted from the monthly periodical called al-Hijrah Magazine (which was then considered the only salafee magazine in the US.

The slogan was calling to "at-Tawheed, al-Ittibaa' and at-Tazkiyah"

Other 'works' and books which were employed were Kitaabut Tawheed by Shaikhul Islaam Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahhaab [translated by Dr. Ismaa'eel al-Faarooqee], al-Aqeedatul Waasitiyyah by Shaikhul Islaam Ibnu Taymiyah (of which was done four times at most; three times recorded:

Once in Albany, NY in 1985, once at one of the state prisons there in upstate NY, once at Masjid Baytul Khaaliq in Newark, NJ in 1992 [recorded], once in 1994 at Masjid Rawdatullaah [now known as Masjidu Ahlis Sunnah in East Orange, NJ [recorded].

There were also classes conducted from the book General Precepts of Belief in the Qur'aan and Sunnah by Abdur Rahmaan Abdul Khaaliq, Milestones by Sayyid Qutb and on many occasions some notes prepared by two former students of Ummul Quraa University in Makkah who are now (to the best of my knowledge) soofees and calling to the Ash'aree madhhab!

The manhaj issues discussed in those times were not as limpid as they are now.  In fact - at least for me - there was no da'wah except for that which came from the shaikh who I saw twice, shook the hand of once, and called and spoke to once via telephone, Shaikh Muhammad Naasiruddeen al-Albaanee. I was in fact deeply enthralled by his message.

But dissimilar to our brothers in the UK, there existed at least one important factor that led to many mistakes made by me (and maybe other than me) and that was, they had regular manhaj classes and clarifications of important issues were afforded them from the visits from People of Knowledge.

Those who visited or lectured via tele-link were the likes of Shaikh Muhammad ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee, Shaikh Abdus Salaam Burjis, and Muhammad al-Anjaree.

We did not have this!

Some of those serious, blatant, errors pointed out by some of the brothers stated by me in the past were the following:

quote:
" ?I would like to die like Hasan al-Bannaa and Sayyid Qutb?"

quote:
"The shaikh Umar Abdur Rahmaan?"

quote:
"?People are ignorant, man.  The vast majority of the Muslims are ignorant, brothers, we have to really? You know that this da'wah of the Salaf just came to the United States in the last 10 to 15 years.  It's just reaching here, it's not even?it's not?it's still? it hasn't even emerged from the womb yet!

Its just coming, man, in the last 10 or 15 years?its just coming to Saudi Arabia!  It wasn't until Shaykh Al-Albaanee came there that these people became prolific in the da'wah of the Salaf.  He's the one who renewed this stuff.  And these people, even the people there, and they don't want to admit it, but they're admitting it now in their books.

Because when Muhammad ibn 'Abdil-Wahhaab came, he was a mujaddid in the sense of reviving the Sunnah from Imaam Ahmad ibn Hambal by way of Ibn Taymiyyah.  But he didn't bring it like Shaykh Al-Albaanee did it.  Because he didn't have the knowledge of hadeeth like Shaykh Al-Albaanee.  And there's no one there that has knowledge of hadeeth like his, so how you gonna revive the Sunnah without knowledge of hadeeth?

Muhammad ibn 'Abdil-Wahhaab was an 'aalim for sure!  But he wasn't bringing it like Shaykh Al-Albaanee is today! No way, brother!  Because Shaykh Al-Albaanee has corrected over 60,000 hadeeths!

So they? this da'watus-salafiyyah is just now even coming to the peninsula of Arabia!  You know, they had the 'aqeedah, but they didn't have the methodology!  They didn't have the manhaj, man?"

I am sure there are many, many more and my endeavor to eradicate these and other false, errant, corrupt and corrupting ideologies have been done by me in the not so distant past. Almost all of them recorded and available.

Some of those lectures done in Atlanta, GA, Fayetteville, NC, Philadelphia (Germantown), PA, Newark, NJ, Asbury Park, NJ, Baltimore, MD, Atlantic City, NJ.

Allaah has tested me with world-wide notoriety via lectures, classes, tapes, cd's, counseling sessions etc. therefore trying to correct every, single statement can not and will not be done by me alone.

Therefore, the aayah that has the interpretation of the meaning

"And help one another in acts of Birr and Taqwaa?" has to be implemented with regards to my serious mistakes, especially by way of advice.

Fortunately for me, there are brothers who - I believe -had (and still have) sincere love for me,  my best interest as a Muslim, [former] imaam/khateeb and a daa'iyah to "pull my coat", advising me in private, by phone or e-mail.

I believe that they do not want me to be disgraced in this life or the next, for surely some of my statements, if gone unchecked would have done just that?disgraced me and my family and possibly caused harm to the spread of the Salafee Da'wah.

I take full responsibility for my past statements of vilification and slander against the truly, rabbaanee, salafee Ulamaa of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, making no excuse for them (errors) accept that I made them when I was ignorant of the some of realities of Salafiyyah - aqeedatan and minhaajan -  and I say as the Prophet Moosaa alayhes Salaatu wa Salaam said [the interpretation of the meaning of the aayah]

I seek refuge with Allaah from being of the ignorant!

An important characteristic of those following the Nahj of the Salaf, is when errors are committed publicly the sunnee, that the perpetrator of said crimes should make those retractions and clarifications publicly.

My tapes are readily available, listened to by thousands of people so there must be a public correction.

Let this thread on salafitalk.net be a vessel for anyone desiring to keep Islaam, the Sunnah and Minhaaj of the Salaf free from blemishes and inappropriate aqeedah or manhaj statements, toPM me (even though I have very limited access to the Internet these days) so that I may correct them.

May Allaah have mercy on those who pointed out my shortcomings, keep our hearts firm on His Deen and Obedience and may He forgive us and pardon us all!
