Correction in Quote from Imaam adh-Dhahabee - Article SLF010001

We would like to bring to attention a translation mistake in the following quote which has been available on the Spubs.Com website (SLF010001), and has also been narrated and quoted often over the years. It is the saying of Imaam adh-Dhahabee:
quote:
Imaam adh-Dhahabee (d.748H) - rahimahullaah - said: "It is authentically related from ad-Daaraqutnee that he said: There is nothing more despised by me than 'ilmul-kalaam (innovated speech and rhetorics). I say: No person should ever enter into 'ilmul-kalaam, nor argumentation. Rather, he should be Salafee (a follower of the Salaf)."[Siyar 16/457]
Which should actually read as:
quote:
Imaam adh-Dhahabee (d.748H) - rahimahullaah - said: "It is authentically related from ad-Daaraqutnee that he said: There is nothing more despised by me than 'ilmul-kalaam (innovated speech and rhetorics). I say: He (i.e. ad-Darqutnee) never entered into `ilmul-kalaam, nor argumentation. Rather, he was a Salafee (a follower of the Salaf)."[Siyar 16/457]
This quotation originated from the now defunct al-Ibaanah Magazine of the mid-90s that was edited by Abu `Aaliyah, the Hizbee from London. It is found in the 3rd Volume of Dhul-Qa?dah 1416H / April 1996. The translation of this quote was done either by Abu `Aaliyah himself or by another person by the name of Abu Taahir, which of the two we are not sure. So we ask everyone to take note of this, and to spread this message as far and as wide as they can.

May Allaah reward our brother Moosaa for pointing this out.

In addition, there is also another mistake that has continued to be transmitted from the same edition of al-Ibaanah in the article entitled, "The Censure of Ta'weel", a quotation from Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen where he speaks of the Ash`ariyyah, Maatureediyyah and the Salafees explaining that the Salafees are Ahl us-Sunnah.

The translation in al-Ibaanah:
quote:
Rather, Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamâ?ah are those who hold on to what the Prophet (sallAllâhu ?alayhi wa sallam) and his Companions were upon, and to the ?aqîdah (creed) of the Salaf - until the Day of Judgement - and they are the Salafîs.??
Whereas it should read:
quote:
So Ahl us-Sunnah wal-Jamaa`ah  are those who are Salaf in belief (i.e. those upon the way of the Salaf in belief), even the late-comer (right) until the Day of Judgement, if he is upon the way of the Prophet (sallAllaahu `alayhi wa sallam) and his companions, then he is a Salafee.
Refer to (1/54) in the Sharh of al-`Aqeedat il-Waasitiyyah of Shaykh Ibn `Uthaymeen. For the record this quote (or the quote above from adh-Dhahabee), was not translated by Abu Talhah Dawud Burbank, but by either Abu `Aaliyah or Abu Taahir.

Although we already amended the end part of this particular quote when we used it on our website many years ago, we ask everyone to distribute this notification - as this quote may still be used by other websites.

wa JazaakumulLaahu khayran.

I hope the admin makes it as a sticky because in recent times some individuals have re-kindled the falsehood that one should not ascribe to as-Salafiyyah and have alleged that Shaykh Uthaymeen was against such ascription.

Jazaakumullahu khayra.
