From the magnificent book ?Silsilah al-Ahaadeeth as-Saheehah wa shai min fiqhihaa was fawaaidihaa? by the Noble Imaam, the Mujaddid, the Mujaahid, the Muhaddith Abu Abdur Rahmaan Muhammad Naasir ud-Deen al-Albaanee (rahimahullaah).

A warning against leaving truthful speech.

Hadeeth 168 page 322

quote:

From Abu Saeed al Khudree (radiallaahu anhu) who said the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) said,

?Let not a man be prevented by fear of the people from saying the truth if he knows it or has witnessed it or heard it.

Reported by at-Tirmidhee, ibn Maajah,  al-Haakim, at-Tayaalasee, Ahmad, Abu Ya?laa and al-Qadaaee in ?Musnad ash-Shahaab? by way of Alee bin Zaid bin Jad?aab al-Qurashee from Abu Nadrah from Abu Saeed al-Khudree in marfoo form. And at-Tirmidhee said, ?The hadeeth is hasan saheeh.?

The references for the above sources are given by the Shaikh. The Ameer ul Mu?mineen fil Hadeeth (rahimahullaah) then discusses the chain.

quote:

The hadeeth contains a  firm prohibition from hiding knowledge due to fear of the people or due to the desires of this world. So whoever hides it fearing some form of harm for himself such as beating and abuse or the cessation of sustenance or fearing their lack of respect for him and the likes of this, then he falls into this prohibition and has opposed the Prophet (sallallaahualaihi wasallam). And when this is the case of the one who hides the truth while he knows it then what would be the case of the one who doesn?t stop there rather he testifies with falsehood against the pious Muslims and abuses them in their deen and aqeedah, following the ways of the riff raff or fearing that they will also abuse him with falsehood if he does not go along with their misguidance and abuse.

O Allaah make us firm upon the truth and when you desire for you slaves some trial then take us to yourself without being those who have been put to trial.
