As-Salaamu' Alaikum wa' Rahma tu'Llahi wa berta khatu jami'aan,

There was mentioned in a da'wah, taskiyyah wa' tarbiyyah conversation amongst the brothers, where a brother said the Prophet sal'Allahu' Alayhe wa salaam said, be different from the magians, specifically referencing, to not cut the beard, to grow the beard and to trim the mustache, to grow the hair all one lenght or cut the hair all one length, and to be different from the magians. I've heard this narration before but my question is now can someone reference the authenticity of the Prophet sal'Allahu'alayhe wa' salaam mention differing from the magians with our haircuts?

I researched who the magians were and what their haircuts looked like below...
Magian brief history- http://www.livius.org/maa-mam/magians/magians.html
Bunch O'Magian Mushrik Faces and their haircuts- http://www.livius.org/gi-gr/greeks/philosophers.html#Heraclitus

* I ask this question because we see the various haircuts of the brothers and question which are permissible or not permissible (ex's: bald head- I've heard this is from the likes of the kawaarij; 'ceaser' cut/ shape-up- have heard from some this is also impermissible because it resembles the 'magians' because some hair is left and some is removed; 'taper'- where the hair fades out to the where the beard starts at the ear and above that remains- is this permissible?; 'cutting split ends' for brothers with genetically curly hair who are trying to grow their hair longer (taking some and leaving some); cutting the hair very low and keeping a shape-up, or lower than that of a 'ceaser'; growing the hair long and keeping an edge-up, would this also be considered an impermissible haircut because some is being removed and a lot left --These examples are only for specifying my question wa Jazaakum' Allahu' Khairun.)

Baarak-Allaahu Feekum - wa sal-Allaahu wa-sallam 'alaa Nabiyyinaa Muhammad,
was-Salaam 'alaykum wa-Rahmatullaahe wa-Barakaatuh.

as-salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh,

i just wanted to note that the second page you linked to was greek philosophers, not magians.  this may also explain why all (or most) of the statues depicted had beards, and differed from the prophet's (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) description of them.  and the caeser haircut was known to be a greco-roman style of haircut.  here is a image of a sassanid (persian) king (the sassanids were the last native dynasty to rule persia before the muslims defeated them):

http://www.livius.org/sao-sd/sassanids/sassanids.htm

i think this looks closer to how the prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) described them, i.e. shaving the beard and letting the mustache grow.

i couldn't tell what the hair on their heads looked like, so i don't know if they were wearing caesars or not.
