ASSALAAMU ALAIKUM
I NEED TO KNOW ,INSHAALLAH,IF IT IS PERMISSABLE TO BURN INCENSE IN THE MUSALLA,I HAVE HEARD A DIFFRENCE OF OPIONION ON THIS SUBJECT.I NEED THE PROOF AS TO WHY IT WOULD OR WOULD NOT BE HALAL.I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO RESERCHING BOOKS ON THIS SUBJECT AND CAN NOT FIND MUCH OF ANYTHING ON THIS SUBJECT. INSHAALLAH

بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم
This question popped up when we opened al Masjid as Salafiyy in Birmingham as some brothers would bring them and burn them. I witnessed abu Talha Daawud taking them out of the walls and stamping them out saying that it was from the fire worshippers who found it to be the only to get fire into the place of worship of the Muslims. I haven?t quoted this as a daleel but will ask him again and find out the source in shaa Allaah.

JAZACKAALAHU KHAIRAN FOR RESPONDING TO THIS TOPIC.I TOO HEARD THAT THE FIRE WORSHIPERS WOULD DO A SIMULAR THING,AND THE KUFR BURN INOCENT IN THE CHURCHES.IF OUR INTENTIONS ARE TO BEAUTIFY,HAVE IT SMELL GOOD,AND NOT TO BE A FORM OR A PART OF WORSHIP,IS THIS HARAM?I READ IN A HADEETH AND I WILL HAVE TO GET THE EXACT DALEEL,THAT THE PROPHET'S WIFE AISHA,USED TO
BURN INCENSE TO PUT A FRAGRANCE IN THE MUSALLA,AND ALLAH KNOWS BEST.
I STILL NEED THE PROFF AS TO WETHER OR NOT IT IS HALAL OR HARAM,SINCE THIS SUBJECT HAS BEEN A FITNAH IN MASJIDS IN MY TRAVELS..

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah
On the authority of Aiesha the prophet (sallalaho alaihi wasalam) ?ordered for masjids to be built in residential areas and to clean and scent them?, narrated by the five except Nasai.
On the authority of Samur?ah bin Jundub the messenger of Allah (sallalaho alaihi wasalam) ordered us to make mosques in our residential areas and to clean them. Narrated by Ahmed, Tirmidhi who declared it authentic and also narrated by Abu Dawood, with the wording ? he (sallalaho alaihi wasalam) used to order us to build masjids in our residential areas and to build them in a correct way and to purify them?.
Imam As-Shawkani says in his book (Nail-Al-Awtaar)
?the first hadeeth is reported by Tirmidhi with a musnad and a mursall chain. And he said the mursall is more authentic. But, other than him (Tirmidhi) narrated it with a Musnad chain with all of its narrators being authentic. So, Abu Dawood narrated it from Husain ibn Ali Al Aswad Al Ajali. - Abu Hatim Said he is Sadook ( his hadith is hasan) ? narrated from Zaidda?ibn Qudaama or Ibn Basiit and they are both thiqah. From Hisham ibn Urwa?from his father from Aiesha marfoo?an. Ahmed narrates the second hadeeth with an authentic chain.
And also other than him have narrated the hadeeth with good chains.
(Imam As-Shawkani continues to explain the hadeeth until he gets to the point where he says to make the masjids smell good!)
Imam As-Shawkani says
? ibn Raslaan said , the masjid should be scented with the scent used by men and that its colour can not be seen but its smell is apparent for verily the colour will distract the believer from the salah and in the masjid priority should be given to where the people pray and the places of sujood.
And it?s allowed to burn the scent in a scent burner (tajmeer) and carry it in the masjid ?.
ويجوز ان يحمل التطيب على التجمير فى المسجد

عن عاءشة رضي الله عنها قالت : أمر رسول الله صلي عليه وسلم ببناء اللمساجد في الدور, وأن تنظف و تطيّب. ر و اه أحمد وابو داود والتّرمذي
وصحّح ارساله.

The hadeeth has been authenticated by Shaykh Al-Albani in Sunan Abi Dawood.
Mohammed ibn Ismaeel Al Amir As San?ani says while explaining the hadeeth on page 396, Chapter ?Masjids? hadeeth no. 236 ( the first hadeeth of the chapter.) of ?Subulu As-Salam, the connection to Bulugh al Maraam,
والتطييب بالبخو ر و نحوه
?And scenting is by bakhoor and its likes?
