On the authority of Ibn Abbas(RA)it is reported that he said:When Adam(AS)joined with her,she became pregnant and then Iblis came to her and said:I am your companion, who caused you to be expelled from Paradise.Obey me,or I will cause your child to grow two horns like a deer by which he will puncture your belly when he comes out!So do it!Do it!Thus he tried to frightened them into naming their child Abdul Harith, but they did not obey him and a dead child was born to them. When Hawwa became pregnant a second time,Iblis again approached them and repeated the same demand but again they refused and the child was born dead. She became pregnant a third time and Iblis came to them and made the same demand, reminding them of what had happened before. At this point, they were overcome by love for their(unborn) child and name him Abdul Harith.

salaamun 'alaykum wa rahmatullaah

I haven't been online for a few days due to modem problems, but I assume that this is a question about the authenticity of this narration.

When Hawaa' became pregnant Iblees went around her and prior to that she had no child that lived (i.e. miscarriages). So he (Iblees) said to her, "Name him (the baby) 'Abdul-Haarith." So she named it 'Abdul-Haarith and it lived. And that was from the revelation of the Shaytaan and his command.

This was reported by At-Tirmidhee, no. 595, and Al-Imaam Al-Albaanee rahimahullaah graded it weak (Dha'eef) in Dha'eef At-Tirmithee.

See also Al-Albaanee's discussion of it in Silsilat ul-Ahaadeeth idh-Dha'eefah, no. 342, where he grades it Dha'eef, and also Dha'eef ul-Jaami', no. 4769 where he says that it's Dha'eef.

This version you presented is longer. Where did you read it? Maybe one of the books of Tafseer? I will see if I can find this version when I get home, inshaa' Allaah.

was-salaamu 'alaykum

assalamu alaikum wa rahmattullahi wa barakatuhu ya akhi fillah,
na'am, it was a question but it was late and i was tired, jazakallahu kheir.
i read it in al kitab-ul tawhid(that is how it is printed on both translations) one of them was translated by Sameh Strauch(the brother someone else was asking about), the other is translated by Isma'il Raji al Faruqi both were published by the International Islamic House of Publishing and neither of them stated whether it was actually a hadith or if it was a statement of someone else, which led me to research both the translators because when i checked the tafseer of the ayat (ibn Katheer) it didn't mention it.
wa assalamu alaikum wa rahmattullah

Jazaakallaahu khayran akhee,

I thought the narration was familiar. Yes, it is a statement of Ibn 'Abbaas (i.e. an Athar) and not authentic as a hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam). The lengthy version that you mentioned is in Kitaabut-Tawheed as a statement of Ibn 'Abbaas (radhiyallaahu 'anhumaa).

Shaikh Saalih Aal Ash-Shaikh said in explaining this, in his explanation of Kitaabut-Tawheed:

Ibn ?Abbaas said concerning this verse, ?When Aadam had sexual intercourse with her (Eve), she became pregnant?? That which most of the Salaf are upon is that this story is about Aadam and Hawaa? (Eve), and this is what the Shaikh has relied upon ? may Allaah have mercy upon him.
Concerning his statement, ?Saalih?, this means in reference to his physical creation (i.e. healthy) and in reference to his being beneficial for them.
The word Shurakaa? (partners) is the plural of Shareek (partner), and the meaning of Sharikah in the Arabic language is that two people share in something. Thus, they made partners with Allaah in what He had given them. This was in their obeying Satan and naming that child ?Abdul-Haarith. Al-Haarith is Iblees (Satan). This was not the first time. Verily disobedience had occurred (from them) before that just as has been mentioned in the hadeeth that the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said, ?He (Satan) deceived them (Aadam and Hawaa?) twice.? This was well known with the Salaf. Therefore, His statement, ?partners in that which He had given them?, is from the aspect of association of partners in obedience. It is known that every disobedient person is obedient to Satan, and that every act of disobedience (sin) does not come from the servant except that there is a type of association of partners that has occurred in obedience. This does not necessitate a deficiency in the status of Aadam and Hawaa?, nor does it necessitate Shirk with Allaah. It is only a type of giving a share (association) in obedience. The minor sins were allowed to the Prophets, as is known among the people of knowledge. This is because they do not remain upon them. Rather they make haste to turn to Allaah, and their condition (of piety) after the sin becomes greater than their condition before. This is a matter that is known with the people of knowledge. Ash-Shirk here means association (giving a share) in obedience and not major Shirk, may Allaah forbid that for them.
