Assalaamu alaykum,

Yes, there is a saying that goes like this:
'A way to a man's heart is through his stomach!'
(not claiming it to be from our salaf)

But are the sisters going overboard in trying to gain their husbands love or are they just good cooks!

It is clear that many of the people in the west are suffering from obesty which is understandable considering food is cheap and the fact that they don't have any guidance concerning 'manners of eating'. But since this is the case, why are some of the muslims and particularly the salafee people being affected by obesty?

The answer to this question could be one of the following:
.cheap food
.the sisters are good cooks
.brothers trying to be strong mujaahids
.excess fat/skin from having multiple babies, in our sincere effort to increase the ummah of our Prophet(sallaahu alayhi was salam)
.greediness
.weak willpower
.not following the sunnah of eating
.sign of the Day of Judgement
.lack of excercise
.other reasons

Whether or not we realise what the reason is behind us gaining those extra pounds/stones is, we can try to solve the problem. But one thing is certain, if we truly followed the sunnah of eating (easier said then done) dieting books would not find a comfortable place on our shelves! So as an advice to myself and my sis/bro's we can remind ourselves of the following:

"No human ever filled a vessel worse than the stomach. Sufficient for any son of Aadam are some morsels to keep his back straight. But if it must be, then one third for his food, one third for his drink and one third for his breath." [Ahmad, At-Tirmidhee, An-Nasaa'ee, Ibn Maajah - hadeeth saheeh.]

"Then, they were followed by generations who neglected the prayer and followed their appetites. They will encounter a pit of fire except for those who repent..." [Maryam 59-60]

Narrated Zahdam bin Mudrab:
I heard Imran bin Husain saying, "The Prophet said,
'The best people are those living in my generation,
then those coming after them, and then those coming
after (the second generation)." Imran said "I do not
know whether the Prophet mentioned two or three
generations after your present generation. The Prophet
added, 'There will be some people after you, who will
be dishonest and will not be trustworthy and will give
witness (evidences) without being asked to give
witness, and will vow but will not fulfill their vows,
and fatness will appear among them."
Volume 3, Book 48, Number 819

Wallaahu musta'aan

May Allaah help us all, aameen.

Wa-alaykum salaam wa rahmatullah,
you wrote :
"The best generation is my generation, followed by the one after them then the one after them. Then will come a people who bear witness but are not asked to bear witness, who swear oaths but do not fulfill them and fatness will appear among them." [Bukhaaree and Muslim]

I'd be grateful if you can provide the exact reference for the above hadith because I have been told that the wording 'The best generation..' is not correct. Rather, the correct wording is either 'The best of you..' or 'The best of people...'. Jazakillah khair.
Was-salaam

jazakaAllaahu khair brother yaqoob,

I originally found the hadeeth in 'question' on a website, so I did a cut and past because I knew it was a sahih hadeeth that I had read a long time ago but I didn't know about this comment you made.

anyway, I went on a hadeeth database and found another one which you can see I've replaced it with.

so again, jazakaAllaahu khair katheera for your correction.

Salamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakatuhu

I remember listening to one of Sheikh Naasirud-Deen Albaanee's tapes dealing with the Usoolu Dawatus- Salafiyyah where he mentioned the hadeeth that is spoken of here which is, "Khayru Quroon Qarnee [the best generation is my generation]" which the sheikh mentioned is UN-authentic but rather the authentic one is "Khayru Naas Qarnee [The best of people are my generation] as well as the other hadeeth that is recorded in the Musnad of Imaam Ahman where the prophet [alayhi salatu wa salam] was asked" Ayyu Naasi Khayr [which are the best of people]? And the Prophet [alayhi salatu wa salam] answered  "Ana Walladheena Ma3ee Thumma Alladhena A3la Athaar thumma Alladhena A3la Athaar" [I am, and those who are with me and then those who come after them and those who come after them."
