Asalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu,

Does anyone have any verdicts from the Ulamah with regard to the permissibility of belonging to a workplace trade union?  This membership involves participating in industrial action, such as strikes, where refusing to work is undertaken on a number of days and sometimes in concession.

It just seems that this type of activity is a form of rebellion against the employer.  In the past when there have been strikes, the union themselves notified their members, that if they should partake in the strike action, they will in fact be breaching their employment contracts.  Jazakamullah Khairan.

Some brother who has a good knowledge in the field (employment relations / industrial relations) should pose this question to the Ulamah and get a proper answer.

This information is not enough and it is only from one side, you must look at the other side of how employers abuse their powers against weak and volnurable employees.

barakAllahu Feek
