asalaamu 'alaikum, i had a question about the concept of tawakkul. if one was in a difficult situation, one should put their complete trust in Allaah. we also know from the sahaaba that they would ask the Messenger, sallallahu alayhe wa sallam, to make du'a for them. so my question is. when one is in this type of hardship and difficulty, what is better and considered from the manners of the true mutawakkilin: 1) one should put one's trust in Allaah and be patient and wait for the Allaah's help and answer only. OR 2) one should do this but additionally also ask others to make du'a for them. in other words, should one refrain from asking others to make du'aa and is this better?

asalaamu alaikum, alhamdulillah i found the answer to this question - statements from both Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen and Shaykh al-Albaani, and im sure there are more of the people of knowledge, mentioned that it is better not to ask others. barakAllahu feekum

Author: Shaykhul Islaam ibn Taymiyyah Reference: Qa'idah Jaleeyaah: P. 75 - Whoever says to someone else; żmake Dużaa for me/usż with the intention that the person being asked would benefit by making Dużaa, and that the person making the request would also benefit due to the action of the one being requested - just as he would benefit by requesting someone else to do any of the virtuous deeds, then this person is following the example of the Prophet - صلي الله عليه و سلم -, this is not considered to be from the questions that are not preferred. As for the one whose only intention [by his request] is that he himself can attain his need, without intending to benefit the one whom he is making the request of, then this person is not amongst those who have taken the Messenger - صلي الله عليه و سلم - as an example in this issue. Rather this type of request is not preferred, forsaking it and turning to Allaah in need and asking Him is better than turning to the creation in need and asking them[1]. And all of this is from the category of asking the living and is permissible and legislated. [1] The Hadeeth collected by al Imaam Ahmad, at Tirmidhi and Abu Dawood that żUmar ibnul Khataab asked the Prophet for permission to make żUmrah, so he permitted him and said: żDo not forget us, my brother, in your Dużaa.ż Shaykh al Albaanee has declared the Hadeeth to be inauthentic in his notes to Mishkaat al Masaabeeh and Dażeef al Jaamiż as was clarified by Shaykh Rabeeż in his notes to this book.

Also shaikh Falah Ismail may Allah preserve him answered a similar question when he was in Kosovo and said that it is allowed but it is better to make du'aa for yourself and to not ask people to make du'aa for you,and he explained briefly the reasons. One of the reasons he said is that it may bocome a fitnah to the one who the du'aa is requested and people may spread the word that fulan's du'aa is accepted and the general Muslims may stop doing du'aa by themselves and may continue asking du'aa from specific persons.

47- The ruling on asking another person to supplicate Allah for their sake Q: Sister Aum Al-Bara' from Abha, asks: What is the ruling on asking a person to supplicate Allah for them? One may ask another person to supplicate Allah for their sake during their travel or may ask them not to forget them during their supplications. Is it a kind of supplication to anyone other than Allah? Guide us to the right behavior in this regard. May Allah reward you with best. A: It is permissible to ask a fellow Muslim brother or sister to supplicate Allah for one's sake. It is not a kind of abhorred Tawassul (seeking to draw close to Allah through lawful means). Once, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to his Companions: "A Yemeni person called Uuays Al-Qarni will come to you. He was dutiful to his mother. Whoever meets him from among you should ask him to ask Allah's forgiveness for his sake." It was reported also that he (peace be upon him) said to `Umar when he set on a journey to perform `Umrah (lesser pilgrimage): "Do not forget us in your supplication!" There is no blame if one asks their brother to supplicate to Allah for their sake during their travel or to invoke Allah to grant them a righteous offspring or a wife. There is also no blame if one's sister or mother asks them to supplicate Allah for her sake. It is permissible for a Muslim to ask his brother or sister to supplicate Allah for his sake.
