asalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatuh,

it is very common amongst south asians to say "khoda haafiz" before departing
from one another, rather than saying the salaam. they also say "Allah haafiz"
alternatively. from my knowledge, "khoda" means God, however i know that we
cannot call upon Allah with other than the names and attributes that HE has
informed us by way of His Messenger sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.

can someone please comment on this? have the scholars mentioned anything with
regards to this? also, is saying this a bid'ah at the time of departing?
