Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu
Who is (Shaykh) Abdullah bin Mahfudh ibn Bayyan? He is being refered by Hamza Yusuf, and other sufis, and those who are trying to unite all groups!! But someone said that he is a leading scholar of Saudi Arabia(??)....

He Abdullah ibn Bayyah is a teacher at king Abdulaziz University, sheikh 'Ubayd Al-Jaabiree said that he is ikhwaani. He has the introduction to Hamza Yusuf's book on Tahawiyyah and has a web site where he is seen in a photo with Suhaib Hasan and others on the European Share'ah council. He is pushing the new salafi sufi claim. May Allaah guide us to the truth.
I have not come across a detailed refutation of his statements but he is being referred to by Hamza Yusuf and others and has many menhaj errors that need to be addressed inshaallaah. He is not a leading scholar in Saudi, rather he is unknown. However, he is gaining momentum in the west and some of his thoughts that he is speading need to be taken to the ulama to be clarified.
قال تعالى:{إنا نحن نزلنا الذكر وإنا له لحافظون} قال الشيخ السعدي - رحمه الله - في تفسيره (3/31): " فلا يحرف محرف معنى من معانيه( القرآن ) إلا وقيض الله له من يبين الحق المبين وهذا من أعظم آيات الله ونعمه على عباده المؤمنين".
