Yusuf al-Qaradawi: The New 'Qutbi' Understanding of Tawheed

Yusuf al-Qardawi is one of the most prominent of the contemporary figureheads of al-Ikhwan al-Muslimeen and he has written many times on the movements of Takfir. We see a couple of trends amongst todays Ikhwanis. Seeing that the ideologies of Takfir found in Qutb's books are harmful to their cause, a group amongst them (like al-Qaradawi) are trying to distance the Ikhwaan from these teachings. He is opposed by others, who try to downplay the issue of Takfir and argue that the books of Sayyid Qutb have been fundamental to the Ikhwaani movement, and that they have an important role to play. We'll leave them to argue about these issues, but here is a statement of al-Qaradawi taken from an article published on 4th May 2004 called (هل يكفّر "سيد قطب" مسلمي اليوم؟) in which he outlines the ideology of Takfir in the works of Sayyid Qutb...........

Yusuf al-Qaradawi: The Takfir of All Societies and Announcement of Destructive Revolutions In the Final Works of Sayyid Qutb

Yusuf al-Qaradawi, said in his book (أولويات الحركة الإسلامية) "Priorities of the Islamic Movement" (p.110):

quote:

And it was in this period that the books of the Shaheed, Sayyid Qutb appeared, the books that represented his final thoughts (in ideology, before his death). Those which justified the Takfir of (whole) societies... the breaking of all sentimental attachments to society, breaking off ties with others, and the announcement of a destructive jihad against the whole of mankind. And showing contempt against the dużat who call for lenience and softness, accusing them of idiocy, and being defeatist [Saying all of this], in front of the western civilisation. He made this manifest, in the most clear manner in the tafsir, "Fee Zilaal il-Qur'aan", in the 2nd edition and in "Ma'alim fit-Tariq" (Milestones), and the bulk of it is taken from "Zilal" and "Al-Islam wa Mushkilat al-Hadaarah" and others...

Yusuf al-Qaradawi: Groups Known as 'the Qutbiyyoon' Found in Various Places Harboring the Doctrines of Takfir Found in az-Zilaal

Yusuf al-Qardawi:

quote:

And we have seen groupings in various regions called "The Qutbiyyoon" embracing the ideology of Takfir (excommunication), and I have seen the signs of that: From those who ask me about praying in houses and abandoning the mosques upon the consideration that they are Jaahiliyyah places of worship, and this is from what they understood from az-Zilaal in tafseer of the saying of Allaah, "And take your houses as a qiblah", and I refuted them in the first chapter of my book "Fataawaa Mu'aasirah".  And whoever reads the literary works of Jamaa'at at-Takfir will find the remnants of this ideology, and its well known expressions that are from the core, essence of this ideology, even if they do not explicitly reveal their quoting from it (i.e. from the actual source, the works of Qutb).

Yusuf al-Qaradawi: Sayyid Qutb Makes it Explicitly Clear That All Muslims Today Are Disbelievers

Yusuf al-Qardawi:

quote:

his (Qutb) is the man who makes it clear - rather [one who] screams - with what leaves no room for any doubt or other plausible consideration [in meaning] [except] that the lands used to be considered in the days gone by "an abode for Islaam" and that those peoples from the descendants of those Muslims, those whose ancestors used to Muslims in the days gone by, that they have not continued to remain Muslims, even if they think, in their belief, that they are practicising Islaam, because they have not testified that "None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah, alone" upon its true, real meaning, as he (Qutb) has defined. And he considered it troublesome what the Islamic movements were concerned about, that this new understanding had not become clear to them ... that those who think themselves to be Muslims today are Kuffar in reality. And he (Qutb) desired from these movements and their callers to openly proclaim a word of clarity (in this regard) and [that] they should not care about the "tuhmah (slanderous accusation)" of making Takfeer of the Muslims, for the reality (to Qutb) is that they are not Muslims!!

Yusuf al-Qaradawi on Sayyid Qutb: All Muslims Are Apostates (Kuffaar, Mushrikeen) Except Those Who Agree With My Ideology and Join My Group

Yusuf al-Qardawi:

quote:

The text is clear, and completely apparent: The writer (Qutb) does not consider [anyone] to be a Muslim except whoever believes in this ideology of his, and this is the group that he calls the "Muslim Vanguard", and this [group] is the one for which it is obligatory to realize that it alone is the "Muslim Ummah", and that whatever is around it and whoever is around it, from those who have not entered into what [this group] has entered into, is [itself] Jaahiliyyah and [those people are] the people of Jaahiliyyah, meaning they are Mushriks and Kuffar, they do not have any share of Islaam, even if they pray, fast, give zakah, and make the pilgrimage. It is as if all the Muslims are equivalent to the Mushriks of Makkah at the time of the sending of Muhammad (as a Messenger), and it is as if his da'wah is equivalent to the da'wah of Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam), whoever believed in that da'wah entered into Islaam and whoever did not believe in it, then he is a Jaahiliyy, Kaafir, whose blood is permissible to shed!!
