wa 'alaikumussalaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh,

I was shown some information pointing out that the Scholarship Program may be fake. That they use personal e-mail addresses (msn/yahoo), and request a deposit before hand to a personal PayPal account makes it more worrisome.

Insha'Allaah, like brother Rasheed (may Allah reward him) advised it would be best if the program is verified (perhaps, from the University itself or the Saudi Embassy) before brothers/sisters continue with it.

May Allaah protect us. And Allaah knows best

salam alykom wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh

the saudi embassy in berlin told me, they do not have information about such a scholarship programm. unfortunatly they could not give further assistance and said, we should contact the university directly, inshaAllah.

unfortunatly the email addresses provided on their website which I found, send me back a message, "mailbox full". but I found a hotmail address on www.rug.edu.sa (ad.dean@hotmail.com) to which I wrote to ask them for verification. I did not receive any answer yet.

as-salaamu 'alekum:

The university is to be completed in 2012.

http://www.arabianbusiness.com/579284-vision-signs-349m-contract-for-riyadh-university

It is odd for an university to accept applications 2 years in advance. As a brother put it - it seems like a "419 Fraud - AKA Nigerian Scam".

How could someone do such thing by way of using the attraction of attaining knowledge of Allah's Religion a means to steal money.

As I understood, it can not be verified that it was a fraud, but it was not well communicated and planned and many people got upset about it. Allahu Alim. I read a comment on an blog that someone spoke to this individual and she was upset about what happened and she was considering to stop the service, but I can't verify this information, it was just a blog comment.

It appears that there has been some misunderstandings and the posting, spreading and distribution of information without verifying. There was a post that was made earlier in the thread, which got deleted mistakenly. If the original poster wishes to repost it, please do. Following that, this thread will be closed.

as-salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa baarakatuhu:

BaarakaAllah feekum Admin, I had originally posted this and it was mistakenly deleted as you mentioned. With your permission I will post again, inshaAllah.  Indeed this has been a trial for not only the sisters and their families but to us all.  I had sent the email below to various yahoogroups that I am part of in hopes to bring clarity to the matter at hand, inshaAllah. May Allah, Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem have Mercy on us all.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Bismillah wal-hamdulilaah was-salaatu was-salaam ala rasulilaah.

As-salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa baarakatuhu,

First and foremost I ask Allah subhanahu wa taıala for forgiveness of any sin that I have incurred intentionally or unintentionally and for any wrong doing that may have resulted in my actions. Ameen.

This is a retraction from my initial email cautioning sisters of a ıpossible scamı regarding the application process of Princess Noura University that was mentioned from the website http://ruwaydamustafah.com.  My initial email was sent to six of my friends however it ended up being forwarded to many.  Allahu Mustıaan.

After several unsuccessful attempts I finally was able to reach Umm Maryam Rasheda in Saudi Arabia, wal-hamdulilaah. We talked for about 25 minutes and the following information is what I gathered based off my conversation with her:

* About Her  -  Umm Maryam Rasheda is a sister upon the Dawatus-Salafiyah who is from New Jersey and has been living in Saudia Arabia for quite some time now.  She is what many of the Arabs would call a Wustaa (Middleman, Intermediate, Agent) and has offered this service for about 9 months.  She knows people and has connections at Princess Noura University.  She is offering this service to help our sisters who want to seriously go to the University.  Her service offers the following: ensure that all the necessary paperwork is in order, ensure that it is authenticated by the proper authorities, translation of all documents, complete and fill out your University application, physically walk your application and documents through to the proper administrators at the University, and a personal contact for you for any follow up questions and concerns you may have.  She mentioned that her husband is known by the brothers at TROID and Salafipublications.

* Regarding the University  -  the university has been and is currently open and is accepting applicants.  What is currently under construction is the expansion of the University that King Abdullah has put in place to accommodate more students, wal-hamdulilaah.

* About her fees  -  the $100 non-refundable fee is a pre-screening fee.  For those of us living in USA and Canada and is able to get our documents authenticated from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of our country and then Saudi Embassy then you will not have to pay the full remaining balance of $900.00 your balance will be much less.  If youıre not accepted into the University a portion of your monies will be returned to you.  (You can ask her for more details regarding this).

* About Umm Muhammad Naimah  -  She currently lives in East Orange, NJ her and her husband attends Masjid Rahmah. She can be reached at Ummnajimah@yahoo. com.

This is what I briefly gathered from my conversation with her. You can get a $5 calling card and contact her directly at 011966535300346 or email her at umimaryam20@msn. com if you have any additional questions or concerns.  She seems to be sincere, was open and honest in answering all my questions and was patient with all the questions that I asked, from personal to business.  I apologize to her for any harm that I may have caused and subhanaAllah she said to me that she has already forgiven me before I even asked.  May Allah make her feet firm Ameen.  She asks that everyone please make dua for her and her family.

The lessons that I have personally learned from this are:

* When providing a service to the Ummah (local and afar) it is imperative to be absolutely clear as to what youıre offering to remove any doubt or suspicion about you or your business.

* Verify, Verify and verify some more.  Not only do we need to verify for those who claim it is true we also need to verify for those who claim it is false.  And this is what I failed to do when taking the statement from the website of http://ruwaydamustafah.com  Allahu Mustaıan.

* Realize that not all people, places and businesses operate like United States of America.

* Be patient, cautious and measured not quick and hasty.

* False allegation, slander and backbiting is from amongst the major sins so beware and avoid falling into it.

I ask Allah, Al-Ghafur, Ar-Raheem for forgiveness and pardon. Peace and blessings be upon our dear Prophet Muhammad.

Your sister in Islam,

Umm Tahir Hakimah bint Hakim
Philadelphia, PA
