I asked the question to akhee Abu Sufyan Uthmaan Beecher hafithahullaah to which he replied "the hadeeth is general and does not specify a particular 'Eed".

JazaakALlahu khayraa akhee.

Does any one know if this is this for both 'Eids? Also, does this hadeeth follow from the hadeeth (if I remember correctly) of praying 2 rak'at before leaving the home and 2 rak'at upon returning as a source of protection?

BaarakAllahu feekum.

on the authority of Abu Saeed al Khudri may Allaah be pleased with him who said: The Messenger (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam)never used to pray anything before the eed prayer and when he returned to his house he prayed two rakaat.
Ibn Hajar said the hadeeth is hasan. Reported by ibn Majah.

قال تعالى:{إنا نحن نزلنا الذكر وإنا له لحافظون}
