As Salaamu 'Alaikum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuh

كتاب العيدين

Narrated Ibn Juraij (radhiyallaahu 'anhu), 'Ataa-a (radhiyallaahu 'anhu) told me that he had heard Jaabir Bin 'Abdullaah (radhiyallaahu 'anhu) saying, "The Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) stood up to offer the prayer of the 'Eidul Fitr. He (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) first offered the prayer and then delivered the Khutbah. After finishing it he, (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) got down (from the pulpit) and went towards the women and advised them while he was leaning on Bilaal's, (radhiyallaahu 'anhu) hand. Bilaal (radhiyallaahu 'anhu) was spreading out his garment where the women were putting their alms." I asked 'Ataa-a whether it was the Zakaat of 'Eidul Fitr. He said, "No, it was just alms given at that time. Some lady put her finger ring and the others would do the same." I said, (to 'Ataa-a), "Do you think that it is incumbent upon the Imaam to give advice to the women (on 'Eid day)?" He said, "No doubt, it is incumbent upon the Imaams to do so, and why should they not do so?" Al Hasan Bin Muslim (radhiyallaahu 'anhu) told me that Ibn 'Abbaas (radhiyallaahu 'anhu) had said, "I joined the Prophet, Aboo Bakr, 'Umar and 'Uthmaan (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa 'alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa sallam) in the 'Eidul Fitr prayers. They used to offer the prayer before the Khutbah, and then they used to deliver the Khutbah afterwards. Once the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) came out (for the 'Eid prayer) as if I were just observing him waving to the people to sit down. He, (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) then accompanied by Bilaal (radhiyallaahu 'anhu), came crossing the rows till he reached the women. He (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) recited the following verse:

'O Prophet! When the believing women come to you to take the oath of fealty to you . . . (to the end of the verse) 60:12

After finishing the recitation he (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, "O ladies! Are you fulfilling your covenant?" None except one woman said, "Yes." Hasan (radhiyallaahu 'anhu) did not know who that woman was. The Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, "Then give alms." Bilaal (radhiyallaahu 'anhu) spread his garment and said, "Keep on giving alms. Let my father and mother sacrifice their lives for you (ladies)." So the ladies kept on putting their Fatkhs and other kinds of rings in Bilaal's garment." 'Abdur-Razzaq (radhiyallaahu 'anhu) said, "Fatkhs is a big ring which used to be worn in the period of ignorance. Saheehul Bukhaaree, The Book Of The 2 'Eid Festivals, # 928

And We indeed tested those who were before them. And Allaah will certainly make (it) known (the truth of) those who are true, and will certainly make (it) known (the falsehood of) those who are liars, (although Allaah knows all that before putting them to test).

أَمْ حَسِبَ الَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ السَّيِّئَاتِ أَن يَسْبِقُونَا سَاء مَا يَحْكُمُونَ

Or those who do evil deeds think that they can outstrip Us (i.e. escape Our Punishment)? Evil is that which they judge!  Sooratul 'Ankabut, aayat 3-4

as-salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh,

i found in this hadeeth from muslim:

quote:

Ibn 'Abbas reported: I bear testimony to the Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) offering prayer before Kbutba. He (after saying prayer) delivered the Kutba, and he found that the women could not hear it, so he came to them and exhorted them and preached them and commanded them to give alms, and Bilal had stretched his cloth and the women were throwing rings, earrings and other things. This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Ayyub with the same chain of transmitters.

that it said that the prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) "found that the women could not hear it."

does this mean that if the women can hear it, that it is not necessary to give them a separate reminder, or is it still to be done?

and does it have to take place directly after the khutbah, or can it take place later in the day on yawmul-'eed?

Bismillah,
Assalaamu alaikum,

MashaAllah ukhti, jazaakillahu khairan for this beautiful narration and beneficial reminder for all of the women.

Verily Islaam came as a stranger and these days to practise these sunnah's is a strange thing in many places.

In many Asian cultures collecting, wearing and keeping gold is such a common and ritualistic thing.  Women become attached to these things greatly.  So to read such a narration is a good reminder for us women, of these times, living a life a luxury compared to muslims in the poorer/developing countries - of how we should give for the sake of Allaah and not become attached to these dunyaa things.

No matter who may have bought that jewellery as a gift, or whether it is from the items of jewellery worn in your wedding or been passed down etc.  And it's such a shame that when people try to revive this practise - the people look at you as though you are mad to be giving your gold/jewellery away.  And suddenly nobdoy is wearing gold!

May Allaah (subhaana wa ta'aalaa) soften our hearts and make us like the Sahaabiyaat who gave for the Sake of Allaah - not fearing a loss of any kind from wealth or dunyaa.  And may Allaah (azza wajal) make us give like they gave and make our actions sincerely for Him - ameen.

So next time you have this opportunity to give sisters - whether for the Salafi masjid, or for the da'wah, or to help the brothers who are studying the deen, seize the opportunity, take off your earrings or rings or bangles and give for the Sake of Allaah

And Allaah (subhaana wa ta'aalaa) guides whom He wishes.  And with Him is all of the success.

Wassalaamu alaikum

Excerpt From "The Virtues of the Female Companions and the Importance of
Educating the Women" By Umm 'Abdillaah Al Waadi'iyyah (Source - Naseehatee
Lin Nisaa):

On Ibn Jurayr on 'Ataa on Jaabir Ibn 'Abdullaah (radhiyallaahu 'anhum) that
he said the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) stood on the Day of
Fitr ('Eidul Fitr), so he began with the Prayer, then he gave the Khutbah.
After he had finished, the women came, so he gave them a reminder while
supporting himself on Bilaal's (radhiyallaahu 'anhu) shoulder. Bilaal was
wearing a plain garment (a thawb). He reminded the women of Sadaqah
(charity).

In the narration of Ibn 'Abbaas (radhiyallaahu 'anhumaa): "He thought the
women did not hear him, so he advised them and ordered them with Sadaqah."

Ibn Jurayr said to 'Ataa, "Do you view it to be a right upon the Imaam that
he reminds them (the women)?" So he said, "It is definitely a right upon
them (the Imaams), and what is wrong with them that they do not do it?

Umm 'Abdillaah Al Waadi'iyyah (hafithahallaah) said: "Therefore, this
affair is not something specific to the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu
'alaihi wa sallam). So, it is appropriate that the Scholars, and the rulers
pay attention and tend to the affairs of the women just as the Messenger of
Allaah (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) tended to them. The Salafus Saalih
would tend to them and relay knowledge and narrations to them just as they
would with the men so that they can be guided to the keys of excellence and
prevented from evil. So there is no obedience upheld in the correct manner
except by knowledge, and knowledge is absolutely the most virtuous of
obedient acts."

Imaam Ibn Qayyim Al Jawziyyah (rahmatullaahi 'alaihi) mentioned something
similar to this in Mukhtasar Zaadul Ma'aad.
