Shaikh Al-Albani was asked this question by his daughter.
Question: I read that verily some Imams would stop things for the (reading of) Quran only if the month of Ramadaan entered, although they are from the People of Knowledge who give fataawa to the people. They even refrain from issuing fataawa to the people. Is this correct? Should I devote this month to the Quran? And leave off reading hadiths and the explanations of hadiths and the lessons of recitations and other than that?
Imam Al-Albani (May Allaah have mercy upon him) said, " This specification does not have an origin in the sunna, but that which comes in the sunna and is known in the two Sahihs (Bukhari and Muslim) is to increase in reading the Quran in the month of Ramadaan. As for devoting the month of Ramadaan for reading the Quran only without any other acts of worship like: seeking knowledge and teaching hadiths and it's bayaan and explanation, then there is no origin for this. Giving charity, doing good unto others, etc., enter into this. Specifying (this month) for recitation only then there is no origin for this. That which has an origin is increasing in the recitation of the Quran and that's all.
