Q. What is the stance regarding those who say, "In the West the Muslims have many enemies from amongst the disbelievers, therefore we need to co-operate with the deviated Muslims who are upon Bidah like the Asha'irah in those matters in which we all agree and issues which all Muslims face"?

Q: Is it permissible  to cooperate with the Islamic groups active in the field? To what extent is cooperation permissible? Please advise, may Allah reward you with the best!

A: It is permissible and even obligatory to cooperate with all Muslims in righteousness and piety as much as possible because Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) says: (Surah Al-Ma'idah, 5: 2) Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwaa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression. And:(Surah Al-'Asr, 103) By Al-'Asr (the time). Verily, man is in loss, Except those who believe (in Islaamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth [i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Ma'ruf) which Allaah has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar which Allaah has forbidden], and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allaah's Cause during preaching His religion of Islaamic Monotheism or Jihaad).

It is cooperating in righteousness and piety and enjoining one another to adhere to the truth and showing patience to clarify the rulings of Shari'ah (Law) and warn against Bid'ah (innovations in Islam) and to make clear the sound creed followed by the Salaf (righteous predecessors of the Ummah (nation based on one creed), the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and those who followed them in righteousness.

Cooperation and recommendation is to enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and to abandon those worthy to be abandoned because Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) says:(Surah At-Tawbah, 9: 71) The believers, men and women, are Auliyaa' (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another; they enjoin (on the people) Al-Ma'roof (i.e. Islaamic Monotheism and all that Islaam orders one to do), and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (i.e. polytheism and disbelief of all kinds, and all that Islaam has forbidden); they perform As-Salaat (Iqaamat-as-Salaat), and give the Zakaat, and obey Allaah and His Messenger. Allaah will have His Mercy on them. Surely Allaah is All-Mighty, All-Wise. And:(Surah Al-Ma'idah, 5: 78) Those among the Children of Israel who disbelieved were cursed by the tongue of Daawood (David) and 'Isaa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary). That was because they disobeyed (Allaah and the Messengers) and were ever transgressing beyond bounds. They used not to forbid one another from Al-Munkar (wrong, evil-doing, sins, polytheism, disbelief) which they committed. Vile indeed was what they used to do.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The similitude of believers in regard to mutual love, affection, fellow-feeling is that of one body; when any limb of it aches, the whole body aches, because of sleeplessness and fever. The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: Islam is based on advising one another. Upon this we said: For whom? He replied: For Allah, His Book, His Messenger and for the leaders and the general Muslims. (Related by Muslim in his book of Sahih (authentic) Hadith). There are many Ayahs and Hadiths to the same effect.

In response to a question about the co-operation a Dai'ee should have with those who are in agreement with him or oppose him in manhaj(methodology) and giving Da'wah with wisdom and fair preaching; Shaykh Abdul Muhsin al-Abbaad said that the Dai'ee should co-operate with those who are in agreement with him as regards manhaj and tareeqah(way). Regarding those who oppose him, it is upon him to give Da'wah with wisdom and fair preaching, and explain The Right Way. He stressed that his example may be the sole reason for people to be guided, if the Dai'ee behaved with decent moral character and followed the Sunnah of the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) as it should be followed.

Shaykh Ibn Baaz raheemahullaah said,
quote:
However, the order to unify the Muslims and to unite their word upon the truth and to hold fast to the rope of Allaah, does not necessitate that they should not censure wrong beliefs and practices - whether from the Soofees or from other than them. Rather what the order to hold fast to the rope of Allaah necessitates is: to order the good, forbid the evil and also to clarify the truth - with clear Sharee'ah evidences - to whomsoever is misguided or has a mistaken opinion, until they unite upon the truth and turn away from that which opposes it. All of this is included in His - the Most Perfect's - saying:

"And help you one another in righteousness and piety, and do not help one another in sin and transgression." [Sooratul Maa'idah 5:2]

And His - the Most Perfect's - saying:

"Let there arise from amongst you a group of people calling all that is good, enjoining the good and forbidding the evil, they are the ones who shall be successful." [Soorah Aali-'Imraan 3:110]
