In the Name of Allaah, the Most Merciful, the Giver of Mercy
An audio segment from the explanation of Ash-Shaikh ?Abdullaah Al-Ghudayaan of the text of Al-Waraqaat at Jaami? (Masjid) Ar-Raajihee in Ar-Riyaadh
Shaikh: This principle that has been mentioned it is a mistake. This principle, with its being a mistake it has gradually spread upon the tongues of the people, and it is the saying, ?The fundamental principle regarding things is that they are permissible.? This is not correct. The correct principle is that it should be said, ?The fundamental principle regarding the Manaafi? (beneficial things).? ?The fundamental principle regarding the Manaafi? (beneficial things) is that they are permissible, and the fundamental principle regarding the Madhaarr (harmful things) is that they are forbidden.? (Then the Shaikh repeats it.) ?The fundamental principle regarding the Manaafi? (beneficial things) is that they are permissible, and the fundamental principle regarding the Madhaarr (harmful things) is that they are forbidden.? This means that it is not correct to say that the fundamental principle regarding things is that they are permissible.
