New Condition: All applicants to Umm al-Qura University's Arabic Program must first be approved by their own country's "Ministry of Education". Enquiries about this should be directed to the Saudi Embassy of the applicant's country. Applications are no longer being accepted at the university itself in Makkah. All applicants must apply through the Saudi Embassy in their country. Additionally, further conditions may apply as stipulated by the Saudi Embassy in the applicant's country. So for the most accurate and up-to-date information about what is required for one's application, applicants should contact the nearest Saudi Embassy in their country.

QUESTION #5: What is the best way to submit an application?

ANSWER #5: In the past, applicants could try to get an interview at the university and turn their applications in there. IMPORTANT: Now, applications must be submitted to the Saudi Embassy in the applicant's home country. The university has been redirecting applicants in Makkah back to their home countries to submit their applications there.

Yah Moosaa,

In question #1 you mentioned:

"For those over 30, it is highly unlikely that you would be accepted "without connections" in the university. However, it would not hurt to submit your application even if you do not meet some of the conditions."

Is this new process going to hinder the having "connections" part since we can no longer go there to Makkah to get accepted?

Assalaamu Alaykum..

Would the same process be taken by an individual who wishes to apply to other than 'Umm al-Quraa' ? For example Madeenah University.

wa 'alaykumus-Salaam:

To Zaahir: I don't know.  The new condition is brand new and I am not sure how each country is going to handle their approvals and how the application process is going to go now.  Students who have just been acepted from America for this semester have been told that they are the last batch of students that do not fall under this new condition.  I will try to post information as it becomes available.

And the meaning of connection (waasitah) is a Saudi citizen who has some social status and influence who wants to help you.

To Taariq: I don't know.  I look forward to reading posts from those who know about the affairs of Madeenah and Riyaadh and if they are doing the same or similar things.

Was salaam `alaykoem wa rahmatoellaahie wa barakatoehoe,

I got a question also regarding application for Umm al Quraa.

My plan is to come this year with Ramadhaan with my wife inshaa `Allaah to inscribe ourselves in the University and to have an interview there. But if I understand correct, we don`t have to inscribe ourselves in Makkah anymore, but we have to contact the nearest Saudi Embassy and applicate there. Does that mean that the people of the Embassy are in charge of accepting people? Ja`hne are they going to chose who can go to Umm al-Quraa and who not?

I don't know how it is going to work exactly.

These are new procedures so it is likely that many Saudi Embassies, or at least many of the clerks that work in them, are not familiar with them.  Make sure you speak to someone in charge and mention that this is a NEW condition that has just been put into effect this Summer.

as'salaamu 'alaykum.

Can anyone provide me with some additional trustworthy, notable information concerning successfully applying to Umm ul-Qurra, and or Medina, and Muhammad ibn Sa'ud Universities.

I have made numerous attempts to contact the Embassy, but it seems as if I'm playing cat and mouse, they tranfer me from office to office, refer to this one and that one, and still no progress. Allahu Musta'an. Finally I was advised by one of the workers there to contact Fatima Hashimi, but she never picked up the phone nor did she return anyone of my phone calls.

as-salaamu 'alaykum...

I finally spoke to Fatima Hashimi at the Saudi Embassy in Washington, she claims total ignorance of this new requirement. It has come to me that she is the one who deals with the new students after they get accepted to Madeenah university, therefore it will seem that she should have a good knowledge of what the requirements are (both psat and present).... the reason for this additional post is that...

she requested that I fax her documentation from the university stating the new condition so that she can review it herself and get back to me...if anyone has documentation or anything suitable for me to fax to her may Allaah reward them with the greatest of rewards...for aiding me in this endeavor, baraakallaah feekum...
