As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuhu

A few questions...

Is it recommended/neccessary for a new Muslim to have some sort of documentation stating he/she is Muslim?

Would not having such documentation inhibit one from performing the rites of Hajj or Umrah?

If having this documentation is neccessary, does it matter where one obtains it (i.e. salafi masjid or other)?

Walaykum Salaam wa' Rahman tu'Llahi wa berta khatu,

Umm' Safiyyah, in this question are you putting forth the idea of preparing/ distributing 'shahadah certificates' and looking for recommendations from the tu'llab of the use they would have or is someone saying that 'shahadah certificates' are recommended to have and you are questioning from the tu'llab if they actually are?

Baarak-Allaahu Feekum - wa sal-Allaahu wa-sallam 'alaa Nabiyyinaa Muhammad,
was-Salaam 'alaykum wa-Rahmatullaahe wa-Barakaatuh.

As Salaamu Alaykum, Sister your question is welcomed. The Testimony of Faith is for Allah's Pleasure. Then to inform the muslims that you may be aided by them in seeking knowledge. If there are salafee masaajids in your city then make good relations with them. This will help in protecting your blood, your honor and property. This is also will ensure you a proper burial rites for yourself. Islaam is going to be known by our actions. In our speech, in our dress or apperance and in behavior being clothed with worship of Allah and rejection of shirk (associating partners with Allah). This religion of islam is in reality a code of life. Eating and drinking with your right hand, lowering your gaze, not shaking hands or freely mixing with oppisite sex, growing the beard, using water to purify yourself after the bathroom, and wearing the proper hijaab. And many many other acts of worship. Unfortantely the sunnah has been abandoned and this is why confusion and tremendous corruption has appeared. For example in the western disbeliveing society many muslims do not either grow the beard or wear the hijaab. So how can i know that the person is muslim unless I am informed. We have been orderd to be different from the disbelievers.

As for making the hajj and umrah then no problem. Whether there is a ministry to determine if one is muslim or not Allahu alam. I do rememeber that you must take an oath confirming that you are muslim and bear witness that None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah and That Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah to recieve a saudi visa to enter makka or madina , masha Allaah. And the disbelievers hate this statement and or have awe of it. And Allahu ta A'la know best.

Anything that was of good then it is from Allah and Anything which was other than that then it is from either myself or the shaytaan May the curse of allah azza wa jala be upon him!

Wa Salaam

Jazakallaahu khairan for the responses.

The questions were just general based on being asked if I have a 'shahadah certificate' as well as a couple of sisters showing me theirs.

Anyway, I only wanted to know if such a document is a neccessity.

as-salaam alaykum,

This reminds me of when I went to the Saudi embassy in London for an Umrah visa and I was told to prove I was a Muslim, so I recited the Shahadah and was told that this wasn;t sufficient and I needed a certificate, I got the certificate and then I was denied a visa because I have a Jewish surname.  I have since changed that so Insha Allaah next time I will be able to get a visa.

But as far as I am aware; for the purposes of acquiring a Hajj or Umrah visa then yes they require a certificate normally from the Central Masjid (in London it is Regents Park Masjid)

Bismillah,
Assalaamu alaikum,

Regarding the Shahaadah certificate then i was advised before applying for the umrah visa to get one.  And i also had my name changed by deed poll so that i could change my passport (kuffar) name to my muslim name also.

Having done this, with a muslim name on the passport and having the Shahaadah certificate (from Regents park Central Mosque)- alhumdulillah i did not have problem whatsoever in getting my umrah visa.  And mashaAllah the brothers at the Saudi Embassy dealt with it very quickly.

So inshaAllah if you make sure before hand that you've done all the work, when you put the form in you won't be disappointed inshaAllah.

And especially in this time when their security has to be even stricter.  It may seem like a hassle, but inshaAllah if you do it, you will make their life easier, aswell as your own!

Note: In my case, i went with my husband and we had no formal kuffar registration ceremony.  So i sent a copy of a nikaah certificatei had - as i have my fathers surname and my husband's is different.  So with this certificate there was no problem in establishing the fact that he was a legitimate mahram for me.

May Allah make it easy for the revert brothers and sisters to obtain that important Hajj/Umrah Visa!  Sometimes it can be frustrating sorting out all of these documents, but stick with it inshaAllah. And may Allah reward our patience for all of the things that we have to do to prove our Islaam to the authorities - ameen.

Wassalaamu alaikum

Umm Mariam
