Below is an excerpt from a lecture of Shaikh Muhammad al-Anjaree found here.
quote:
Here - (and) of course there are people who have eaten barseem (been affected by wealth and sustenance), just as one of the Salaf said - the Kullaabiyyah in that time had position and status - so that Imaam would not narrate hadeeth to the children until he tested them. So he would say: 'Say: "O Allaah! I free myself (before you) from the Kullaabiyyah."' He would not narrate hadeeth to the student until he would say that phrase. 'O Allaah! I free myself before you from the Kullaabiyyah.' So a student said: 'O Shaykh! My father won't give me sustenance ('aysh)' - meaning barseem. So the  teacher laughed.
Hope someone can give the reference from the books of the Salaf for this incident.

In his book "Al-Bid'ah, its principles and its evil effect upon the Ummah", after explaining the principles of misguided sects like Rawaafid, Khawaarij, Jahmiyyah and Mutazilah, Shaykh Dr. Alee Naasir al-Faqeehee (hafidhahullaah) said, "Similar sects like Kullaabiyyah, ashariyyah, murjiah and all those groups who make taweel of Allaah's names and attributes, and subject the nusoos(texts of Qur'an and Sunnah) to their aql (intellect). Thus, whatever agrees with their intellects, they accept and what does not they reject; even though intellect is not the criterion to which the texts of the Shariah from the Qur'an and Sunnah are to be subjected."

Imaam Ibn Qudaamah al-Maqdisee(d. 620H) said,
quote:
"And from the Sunnah is: making Hijrah from (i.e. Boycotting) the People of Innovations and separating oneself from them, abandoning arguing and disputing in the Religion, not looking into the books of the innovators and giving attention to their speech. And every newly invented matter in the Religion is an innovation.

Anyone who attributes himself with something other than Islaam and the Sunnah is an innovator, such as the Raafidah, the Jahmiyyah, the Khawaarij, the Qadariyyah, the Murji'ah, the Mutazilah, the Karaamiyyah, the Kilaabiyyah and those similar to them. These are sects of misguidance and groups of innovation. May Allaah grant us refuge from them."

Abdullaah ibn Saeed Ibn Kullaab, al-Qattaan, al-Basree, was the head of the mutakallimoon (people of theological rhetoric) of Basrah in his time. He is also the author of works in refutation of the Mu'tazilla but he sometimes agreed with them. He died some time after 240H. (As-Siyar, 11/74)

Shaikhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah said, "As for al-Haarith al-Muhaasibee, then he used to ascribe himself to the saying of Ibn Kullaab, therefore Ahmad (ibn Hanhal) ordered that he be deserted, and Ahmad used to warn against Ibn Kullaab and his followers." (Dar at-Tażaarudil żAql wan-Naql, 2/6)

Imam Al-Dhahabi quoted Al-Imam Abu Bakr ibn Khuzaima in Seyar 'alam an-Nubalaa (14/380) saying, "Ahmed Ibn Hanbal was amongst the sternest of people in warning against Abdullah ibn Sa'eed ibn Kullaab and his companions such as Al-Harith and others."

...Imaam Ahmad declared 'Ibn Kullaab to be an innovator and ordered him to be ostracized...

Imaam as-Sijzee (d.444H) said, "Ahl-us-Sunnah were trialed after these with a people who claim to be followers (of the Prophet) and their harm is far greater than the harm of the Mu'tazila and those other than them. They are Abu Muhammad Ibn Kullaab, Abul 'Abbas Al-Qalaanisi..."
