As salaamu alaikum warahmatullah

Brothers could some one provide me with information on the responsibilites of an imaam before starting the prayer, such as straigtening the rows? What is the sunnah? Should the one leading prayer go to each row and ask the brothers to join their ankles and make sure they are straight and that there is no gap...?
