Question posted on behalf of a brother.

URGENT: Shaykh ibn Baaz Rahimahullah - Fatwa ?

===========================================

Bismillah ar-Rahmaan ar-Raheem

Al-Hamdu-Lillaahi Rabbil-'Aalameen was-Salaatu was-Salaamu 'alaa Ashrafil-Anbiyaa.e wal-Mursaleen, wa ba'd

As-Salaamu 'alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh.

I came across this fatwa (on a website) after a brother in Islam infomed me of it, it is pretty unbelievable, but the purpose of this question is fundamentally for clarification and/or negation of this Fatwa, insha'allah.

Title of the Book: "Evidence that the Earth is Standing Still."
Author: Sheikh Abdul Aziz Ben Baz.
Editor: Islamic University of Medina.
Year: 1395 AH
City: Medina, Saudi Arabia.
Page: 23.

"If the earth is rotating as they claim, the countries, the mountains, the trees, the rivers, and the oceans will have no bottom and the people will
see the eastern countries move to the west and the western countries move to
the east."

"In The Name Of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy."

"The earth is flat, and anyone who disputes this claim is an atheist who deserves to be punished."

[Muslim religious edict, 1993, Sheikh Abdel-Aziz Ibn Baaz, Supreme religious authority, Saudi Arabia]"

Alhamdullillah, i do not wish to question this fatwa, because their are more knowledgable brothers amongst us to speak of it and find out about it, insha'allaah.

But the confusion lies (if you missed it) in the statement "The earth is flat, and anyone who disputes this claim is an atheist who deserves to be punished."
If you also wish to email me personally then please do so, hasanasalafee@yahoo.com

May Allaah Subhanahu wata'aala increase us in Ilm and Sabr.

And Allaah Subhanahu wata'aala knows Best.

Jazakallah Khair.

Wasalaamu alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuh.
