Imaam Ibn Katheer rahimahullah says in Al-Bidayah Wan-Nihayah: "It is binding upon the scholar to be cautious of making faults and to avoid the prohibitions, for his shortcoming is being observed, the ignorant one ready to follow it."

My sincere request to the Ta'alib ul ilm and the Duaat to take naseeha from this and behave with the righteous Islamic manners particularly while dealing with the masses.

May Allaah bless you for your good advice akhee Sajid!

In explanation of the hadeeth (that means) "Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward for each person who follows him in that, without their rewards decreasing at all.  And whoever calls to misguidance will be have a sinful burden to bear for all those who followed him in that, without lessening their burdens at all." (Muslim 2674)

al-'Allaamah Muhammad ibn Saalih al-'Uthaymeen (may Allaah have Mercy on him) said:

quote:
...Know that calling to guidance or misguidance can be done with statements, like when one says: "Do this" or "Do that".  It can also be done by actions, especially regarding those who are followed by the people.  When someone who is followed has done a certain thing, it is as if he has called the people to that action, and thus you find them using his action as a proof, saying "He has done such-and-such, so it must be permissible, or he has refrained from such-and-such, so it must be permissible (to refrain from it)"...

While those considered role models to the masses are definitely to take heed from this, it is not restricted to them alone.  It also applies to a lesser degree to every community leader, imam, mu-ath-thin, board member, teacher, parent, older sibling, or anyone who has even the slightest following.  May Allaah help us all.
