Q
I was at work driving a bus, when the bus broke down.  So I had to wait until the shop truck came.  While waiting, I was having a conversation with a male passenger, when I mentioned that I was Muslim.  He mentioned to me that he had studied some Islam for about four years and started saying some things concerning Islam.  Somehow he started saying the shahadah in arabic.  I asked him to repeat the shahadah, to see if he had said the whole thing and he repeated it and he did say the whole shahadahtaan.  I then asked him did he believe in what he was saying with all his heart and I asked him if anybody forced him to say the shahadah and he said no.  I informed him that because he uttered the shahadah with his mouth and believe with his heart he is Muslim.  But, I said I would ask someone to find out if in fact he is Muslim.  I do give him salaams and he also returns the salaams.  What I want to know is, if he is in fact a new shahadah?
Answer from Sheikh Obayd al Jabree
7.     As for this man he must be taught the meaning of Laa ilaaha Ilalaa Muhammadur Rasoolulaah and if he accepts that he has accepted Islaam then teach him the categories of Eeeman and Islam.
