الحمد لله رب العالمين وصلى الله وسلم على نبينا محمد وعلى آله وأصحابه ومن اهتدى بهديه إلى يوم الدين أما بعد

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Ar Roohul Quddoos (عليه السلام) has two names: Jibreel and Jibraa-eel.  In Shaykh Muhammad Ibn 'Abdil Wahhaab's (رحمه الله تعالى) matn Thalaathatul Usool explained by Shaykh Ibnul 'Uthaymeen (رحمه الله تعالى), the hadeeth "He came to teach you your religion" is introduced as "Hadeethu Jibraa-eel Al Mashhoor.  At the end of the hadeeth Rasoolullaahi (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said, "haadhaa Jibreel", in another narration he (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said "fa-innahu Jibreel." It seems that when he's mentioned in an aayaah or hadeeth where some interaction with mankind has taken place, he is called Jibreel. But, when spoken about (no interaction with mankind) he was called Jibraa-eel.

Was he referred to as Jibreel only during the times of revelation, visiting the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) to review Al Qur'aan, coming in the form of a man, etc, and referred to as Jibraa-eel while in his natural angelic form?  What is the difference between of these two names (besides the spelling)? Jazaakumullaahu khairaan.

Sufyaan Ath-Thawree (رحمه الله d. 161H) said, "Hence, you must take to the original affair, hold tight to it, and you should take to being unknown, for indeed this is the age to remain unknown. And take to remaining aloof, secluded, and associating little with the people, because when people used to meet, some of them would benefit the others. But as for today, then that has gone and in our view, and salvation lies in abandoning them."  Related by Aboo Nu'aym in Al-Hilyah (6/376-377)

بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم

In the famous Hadeeth about the Islaam of abdullaah ibn Salaam, when he asked the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم three questions that nobody knew the answers to except a prophet. The prophet said to him, 'Jibraa'eel just informed me of them' then Abdullaah ibn Salaam asked, 'Jibreel'? He said, 'yes'.

Also when Allaah refers to him in surah Baqarah aayah 98 he says

قُلْ من كان عدوا لجبريل

Say, whoever is an enemy to Jibreel...

Both cases seem to be opposite to what you said. Interesting point though. We should keep researching the topic and see what we come up with.
