Some people have suggested that the difference between between Shaikh Rabi' Al-Madkhali and Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin Al-Abbad over the issue of Abul-Hasan Al-Misri is an issue where the word of Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin is given precedence because people have imagined that Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin holds a greater position than Shaykh Rabi'.

I would like to make the following comments:

a. Shaykh Rabi' is more knowledgable in the field of jarh wa ta'deel, rather he is the carrier of its banner in our time, as Shaikh Albani stated.

b. Shaikh has more knowledge than Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin in the arena of groups and sects and individuals. And his tazkiyaat from the kibar who have passed away are by far more than those of Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin.

c. This, however, does not mean that one scholar cannot excel another in other fields of knowledge, as is well-known. So one scholar may excel in the field of tafseer or fara'id whilst another may excel in hadith or rijaal. This is proven by the statement of the Messenger, salallahu 'alaihi wasalam, where he said, 'The most knowledgeable of my ummah in the halal and the haram is Mu'adh Ibn Jabal' and then he said, 'the most knowledgeable in inheritance is Zaid Ibn Thabit'. So here it is clearly seen that both of these noble companions were praised in their own areas. So likewise we must realise that the most knowledgeable in the field of jarh wa ta'deel is, without doubt, Ash-Shaikh Rabi' Ibn Hadi al-Madkhali.

d. Even if it is claimed that Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin praised Abul-Hasan and called the differences personal. Then this is not accepted - since Al-Jarh mufassar (the detailed critique) takes precedence over the ta'dil mujmal (the general praise). So since the Shaykh Rabi' has criticised in a detailed manner, Abul-Hasan al-Misri in several hundred pages of detailed quotes - then no attention is given to any general praise. No need to quote the statements of the Salaf in this regard, since the article by Nusratul-haq has already brought them in his article.

e. The weak in knowledge will say Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin is from the kibar, so let us take his position in this issue. Then, know that Shaikh Rabi' is also from the kibar. In fact, even in age, they are comparable -Shaykh Rabi' is probably slightly older.

f. Why is it that these blind followers who carry no principles except blind sufi-type devotion for Abul-Hasan do not take the rest of the rulings of Shaikh Abdul-Muhsin, like his praise of Jam'iyah Ihya Turath al-Islami and his praise of Suhayb Hasan (the arch hizbi of London)? Or will they now turn on their heels and offer their apologies to Suhayb Hasan and Turath and its leaders?!!

Such is life of the one with no qawa'id and no usul.

More to come, insha allah.
