Wa alaykumussalaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh,

An article on the subject is available at:

"Toilet Etiquette"
http://www.troid.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=547&Itemid=374

Summary: The Sunnah of relieving oneself and a mentioning of the various rules and regulations that come along with that.

Cleaning private parts with an odd number of stones

quote:
Narrated 'Abdullah: The Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) went out to answer the call of nature and asked me to bring three stones. I found two stones and searched for the third but could not find it. So I took a dried piece of dung and brought it to him. He took the two stones and threw away the dung and said, "This is a filthy thing."

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said, "Whoever performs ablution should clean his nose with water by putting the water in it and then blowing it out, and whoever cleans his private parts with stones should do it with odd number of stones."

Narrated Abu Huraira: I followed the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) while he was going out to answer the call of nature. He used not to look this way or that. So, when I approached near him he said to me, "Fetch for me some stones for ' cleaning the privates parts (or said something similar), and do not bring a bone or a piece of dung." So I brought the stones in the corner of my garment and placed them by his side and I then went away from him. When he finished (from answering the call of nature) he used them.

Abu Huraira reported Allaah's Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) as saying: When anyone wipes himself with pebbles (after answering the call of nature) he must make use of an odd number, and when any one of you performs ablution he must snuff in his nose water and then clean it.

Shaikh Saalim At-Taweel said this past summer in New York that this Sunnah also applies to toilet paper, making sure to use toilet paper an odd number of times. And if the job is done with an even number of wipes, then wipe one more time to make it witr.

And this is highly beneficial, maa shaa` Allaah:

Subhanak Allaahuma wa bihamdika ash-hadu anlaa illaaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk

If I said anything correct, then it is from Allaah (subhanahu wa taa'ala), and if I erred, then that is from me and shaytan.
