The Fitnah Of The Dunyaa And The Fitnah Of Women

''Verily the worldly life is sweet and green, and verily Allaah is going to place you as successors upon it in order to see how you act.  So be mindful of the dunyaah and be mindful of women; verily the first trial for the Children of Israa'eel was caused by women.''[(saheeh Muslim: No 2742) (Ibn Maajah: No 4000) (Ahmad: 3:22)]

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaimeen (rahimahullaah) commented on this hadith saying:

Regarding his (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) statement:

''Verily The Worldly Life Is Sweet And Green''; sweet in taste and green in image.  And when something is green and sweet, the eye seeks it first and then the Nafs.  And when the eye and the nafs come together in seeking after something, the human being is drawn close to falling to it.  The worldly life is sweet in its taste and green in image, so the human being is deceived and pre-occupied by it, and he places a greater importance upon it than what is due to it (of importance).

However, the Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) has made it known that Allaah is going to place us as successors upon it in order to see how we act; whether we will be obedient to Him and forbid the nafs from desires, and whether you will fulfil what Allaah has enjoined upon you and not allow the worldly life to deceive you or whether the opposite will take place?  That is why he (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said:

''Be Mindful Of The Worldly Life'', that is: fulfil what you have been commanded with and refrain from that which you have been forbidden, and do not let the sweetness and radiance of this worldly life to deceive you, as Allaah said:

''Let not then this (worldly) present life deceive you, nor let the chief deceiver (Satan) deceive you about Allaah''. 31:33

Then he (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) stated:

''So Be Mindful Of The Worldly Life And Be Mindful Of Women''

That is: be mindful of them.  This includes a warning to the woman regarding her plot(s) against her husband and also a warning against women and the trial that can be caused through them; and for that reason he (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said:

''Verily The First Trial For The Children Of Israa'eel Was Caused By Women''. They were put to trail through women; thus they went astray and led others astray wal-iyaadhu-billaah.

And for this reason, we find that presently our enemies (the enemies of our religion, the enemies of Allaah's Sharee-ah) are focused on women issues. (They focus) on adorning women, intermingling them and making them share the same occupations with men, until it becomes as if the people are donkeys having no other concern except for their stomachs and canal desires, wal-iyaadho-billaah.  Women are portrayed as if they are mere images, that is: pictures (which) people attached no importance to except that which is connected to the woman's figure (outward appearance).

See how they have decorated and beautified her!  See how they have brought about beautifications for her and presented her in a desirable condition, in relation to (her) hair, skin, display of her legs, arms, face and everything else; until they make it the most important issue for the woman to be like a picture made out of plastic.

They neither present to her the importance of establishing ibaadah nor bearing children

The Abhorrence Of Adultery

Narrated Amru bin Maimun: 'During the pre-lslamic period of ignorance I saw a she-monkey surrounded by a number of monkeys. They were all stoning it, because it had committed illegal sexual intercourse. I too, stoned it along with them.' (saheeh bukhaari: Volume 5, Book 58, Number 188)

Seek The Company Of The Pious Believers (Rich and Poor), But Remember That The Poor Ones Are of Loftier Status In The Sight Of Allaah

Narrated Sahl: A man passed by Allaah's Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and Allaah's Messenger asked (his companions, 'What do you say about this (man)?  They replied, 'If he asks for a lady's hand, he ought to be given her in marriage; and if he intercedes (for someone), his intercession will be accepted; and if he speaks, he will be listened.'  Allaah's Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) kept silent, and then another man from the poor Muslims passed by, and Allaah's Messenger asked (them), 'What do you say about this man?'  They replied, 'If he asks for a lady's hand in marriage, no one will accept him, and if he intercedes (for someone), his intercession will not be accepted; and if he speaks, he will not be listened to.'  Allaah's Messenger said, 'This poor man is better than so many of the first as to fill the earth'

The Heart Knowing Allaah

Imaam al-Bukhaaree said:

'Chapter: the saying of the Prophet (sallallaahu-alayhi-wa- sallam): 'I have more knowledge of Allaah than you all.' And that ma'rifah (knowledge/realization) is an action of the heart about which Allaah the Exalted says:

'But He will call you to account for what your hearts have earned.' [Sooratul-Baqarah 2:225]

Al-Haafidh Ibn Rajab said:

'So hearts will not be corrected until the ma'rifah of Allaah - being in awe of Him, loving Him, fearing Him, relying and trusting in Him, hoping in Him - is not firmly implanted in them. This is the reality of Tawheed and the meaning of the statement Laa ilaahaa illallaah (None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah).

So the hearts cannot be corrected until Allaah is made the ilaah (deity) to be known, loved, feared and hoped for; and that He becomes the only deity (ilaah) worthy of this - without associating any partners with Him in this. So know that the world - whatever is above and whatever is below in the waters - will not be corrected, except when the actions of its people are all for Allaah's sake. Since the actions of the body follow from the actions and intentions of the heart, then when the heart's actions and intentions are only to Allaah alone, then it is corrected, and all the actions of the body will likewise be corrected.

However, if the actions and intentions of the heart are directed to other than Allaah, then it is corrupted, and likewise, all the actions of the body will be corrupted in proportion to how much the heart has been corrupted.'

Knowing The Good And The Evil

Abdullaah Ibn Mas'ood heard a man saying:  'Whoever does not command the good and prohibit the evil is ruined!'  So he replied to the man: 'Whoever does not know the good and the evil in his heart is ruined.'  Al- Haafidh Ibn Rajab al-Hanbalee said: 'Ibn Mas'ood indicates that knowledge of the good and the evil in the heart is an obligation from which no one is exempt. So whoever does not know it is ruined.'

From The Characteristics Of The People Of Paradise

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

Verily, the Muttaqoon (pious) will be in the midst of Gardens and springs (in the Paradise), taking joy in the things which their Lord has given them. Verily, they were before this Muhsinoon (good-doers). They used to sleep but little by night [invoking their Lord (Allaah) and praying, with fear and hope].   And in the hours before dawn, they were (found) asking (Allaah) for forgiveness, And in their properties there was the right of the beggar, and the Mahroom (the poor who does not ask the others). 51:15-19

O Allaah! include us among these favoured ones (Aameen)

Compensation For The Spenders In Allaah's Cause And Destruction For The Misers

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'Those who are miserly and enjoin miserliness on other men and hide what Allaah has bestowed upon them of His Bounties.  And We have prepared for the disbelievers a disgraceful torment.'

Narrated Abu Hurairah (radiyallaahu-anhu): The Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said: 'Everyday two angels come down from heaven and one of them says, 'O Allaah! Compensate every person who spends in Your Cause', and the other (angel) says, 'O Allaah destroy every miser' (Bukhari, No:1442)

Be The Children Of The Afterlife And Not The Children Of The Dunyaah

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'And keep yourself (O Muhammad) patiently with those who call on their Lord (i.e. your companions who remember their Lord with glorification, praising in prayers, etc., and other righteous deeds, etc.) morning and afternoon, seeking His Face, and let not your eyes overlook them, desiring the pomp and glitter of the life of the world; and obey not him whose heart We have made heedless of Our Remembrance, one who follows his own lusts and whose affair (deeds) has been lost.' 18:28

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'Among you are some that desire this world and some that desire the Hereafter.' 3:152

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'You desire the good of this world (i.e. the money of ransom for freeing the captives), but Allaah desires (for you) the Hereafter.'8:67

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'Whosoever desires (with his deeds) the reward of the Hereafter, We give him increase in his reward, and whosoever desires the reward of this world (with his deeds), We give him thereof (what is written for him), and he has no portion in the Hereafter.' 42:20

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'Whoever wishes for the quick-passing (transitory enjoyment of this world), We readily grant him what We will for whom We like. Then, afterwards, We have appointed for him Hell, he will burn therein disgraced and rejected, (far away from Allýh's Mercy).' 17:18-19

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'And whoever desires the Hereafter and strives for it, with the necessary effort due for it (i.e. do righteous deeds of Allaah's Obedience) while he is a believer (in the Oneness of Allaah Islaamic Monotheism), then such are the ones whose striving shall be appreciated, thanked and rewarded (by Allaah).'17:18-19

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

'Whosoever desires the life of the world and its glitter; to them We shall pay in full (the wages of) their deeds therein, and they will have no diminution therein.   They are those for whom there is nothing in the Hereafter but Fire; and vain are the deeds they did therein.  And of no effect is that which they used to do.' 11:15-16

Ali (radiyallaahu-anhu) used to say:

'The Afterlife came approaching; the world passed on behind.  So be the Children of the Afterlife, not the Children of the World.  Since today there is action but no account, but tomorrow there will be accounting but no opportunity will be there to do any action'

Reflection

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

Say (O Muhammad): 'Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited you from: Join not anything in worship with Him; be good and dutiful to your parents; kill not your children because of poverty - We provide sustenance for you and for them; come not near to Al-Fawýhish (shameful sins, illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed openly or secretly, and kill not anyone whom Allýh has forbidden, except for a just cause (according to Islaamic law). This He has commanded you that you may understand.

'And come not near to the orphan's property, except to improve it, until he (or she) attains the age of full strength; and give full measure and full weight with justice. We burden not any person, but that which he can bear. And whenever you give your word (i.e. judge between men or give evidence, etc.), say the truth even if a near relative is concerned, and fulfill the Covenant of Allýh, This He commands you, that you may remember.'

'And verily, this (i.e. Allaah's Commandments mentioned in the above two Verses 151 and 152) is my Straight Path, so follow it, and follow not (other) paths, for they will separate you away from His Path. This He has ordained for you that you may become Al-Muttaqoon (the pious}

These Are Some Of The Things We Ask Allaah For; Because Many A People Have Been Deprived Of It

Abdullaah Bin Mas'ood (radiyallaahu-anhu) narrated: The Prophet (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) used to supplicate saying: 'O Allaah, I ask You for guidance, patience upon staying away from disobedience, self sufficiency and richness (of the heart)' (reported by Muslim)

Being Deceived By The Life Of This World Is A Trait Of The People Of The Pre-Islaamic Era Of Ignorance

Imaam Muhammad Bin Abdul Wahhaab (rahimahullaah) stated in Masaa'ilil Jaahiliyyah:

Indeed they were deceived by the life of this world, so they thought that being given of it is an indication that Allaah is pleased (with the one who receives it), as Allaah stated about their saying: 'And they say: we are more in wealth and in children, and we are not going to be punished'

Sheikh Saaleh Al-Fawzaan (hafidha-hullaah) commented on the above statement saying:

The people of the era of pre-islaamic ignorance considered what they were given of children and wealth to be of nobility that they had in the sight of Allaah, and that Allaah was not going to punish them. 'And they say: we are more in wealth and in children, and we are not going to be punished.  Say (O Muhammad): Verily, my Lord enlarges the provision to whom He wills and restricts, but most men know not.  And it is not your wealth, nor your children that bring you nearer to Us' [34:35-37] up to His (Ta-aalaa) saying:

'Say: Truly, my Lord enlarges the provision for whom He wills of His slaves, and (also) restricts (it) for him, and whatsoever you spend of anything (in Allaah's Cause), He will replace it.  And He is the Best of providers'[34:39]

Therefore, abundant wealth, children and riches is not evidence of Allaah's love for a slave; rather He gives the disbeliever in order to (gradually lead him to destruction).  And as (mentioned) in a hadith:

'Indeed Allaah gives the dunyaah to the one He loves and to whom He does not love, but as for the Deen He only gives it to the one He loves'1

And (stated) in another hadith: 'If the world was worth even the weight of a mosquito's wing to Allah, He would not let a disbeliever drink even a sip of water in it.'2

The Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) is the noblest human being in the sight of Allaah, whilst His companions were afflicted with hunger, poverty and destitution, and they are the noblest of the creation in the sight of Allaah after the Prophets; but the kuffaar graze freely and rejoice in the blessings of the dunyaah to be (gradually led to destruction).

Therefore, the glitter of this world is not what determines the nobility of its people in the sight of Allaah (subhaanahu-wata-aalaa), rather what determines the nobility of a slave in the sight of Allaah is when he is a doer of righteous actions be he rich or poor.....

A Reminder For All Of Us With Regards To The Rights Of The Roads

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: The Prophet said, 'Beware! Avoid sitting on the roads.' They (the people) said, 'O Allah s Apostle! We can't help sitting (on the roads) as these are (our places) where we have talks.' The Prophet said, 'l f you refuse but to sit, then pay the road its right' They said, 'What is the right of the road, O Allah's Apostle?' He said, 'Lowering your gaze, refraining from harming others, returning greeting, and enjoining good and forbidding evil.'

Allaah (subhaanah) said:

Verily those for whom the good has preceded from Us, they will be removed far therefrom (Hell) [e.g. 'Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary); 'Uzair (Ezra), etc.]

They shall not hear the slightest sound of it (Hell), while they abide in that which their ownselves desire.

The greatest terror (on the Day of Resurrection) will not grieve them, and the angels will meet them, (with the greeting): "This is your Day which you were promised."

And (remember) the Day when We shall roll up the heavens like a scroll rolled up for books, as We began the first creation, We shall repeat it, (it is) a promise binding upon Us. Truly, We shall do it.

And indeed We have written in Zaboor (Psalms) [i.e. all the revealed Holy Books the Tauraat (Torah), the Injeel (Gospel), the Qur'aan] after (We have already written in) Al-Lauh Al-Mahfooz (the Book, that is in the heaven with Allaah), that My righteous slaves shall inherit the land (i.e. the land of Paradise).

Verily, in this (the Qur'aan) there is a plain Message for people who worship Allaah (i.e. the true, real believers of Islaamic Monotheism who act practically on the Qur'aan and the Sunnah legal ways of the Prophet).

Supplication Against The Oppressive Yahood Is Permissible; But What Is The First Thing We Must Do Before That?

Sheikh Saaleh Al Fawzaan (hafidha-hullaah) stated:

Brothers;

The actions, disbelief and evil of the Yahood is well known, even (with regards) to (their relationship) with their Prophets.  They killed their Prophets, and (also) is that which occurred with Kaleemul'laah- Moosaa (alayhis-salaam) such as what Allaah has related in the Qur'aan (regarding) the story of Moosaa and Haaroon (alayhimas-salaam).

The character, disbelief, misguidance and evil of the Yahood is well known, even towards their Prophets; but what is obligatory upon us (Muslims) is that we ponder and rectify our deviated affairs and repent to Allaah; because the Yahood have not gained the upper hand over us except due to our sins.

Why is it that we do not hear anyone addressing and admonishing the Muslims whilst saying to them: What has happened to you is (nothing else), but as a result of your turning away from the religion of Allaah and negligence in the affairs of the Deen.  So repent to Allaah in order that Allaah may aid you and avert the plot of the plotters from you.

We do not hear except insult, abuse and supplication against the Yahood, but this should be substituted with supplicating to Allaah to rectify the Muslims and to make them steadfast.  And to mention to the Muslims that they should repent and return to Allaah, and rectify their Deen for the sake of Allaah.  This is the first obligation.

As for supplication against an oppressor-be it the Yahood or other than them, then there is nothing wrong with this.  It is legislated to supplicate against the one who oppress you with the sharee'ah supplications-the supplications found in the Book and the Sunnah. But before supplicating against them, you should supplicate to Allaah to rectify the Muslims and to make the Muslims steadfast upon their Religion and return them to the truth.  (And) advise, address and admonish (them) with regards to Allaah.  This is what is obligatory. [1]

Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz (rahimahullaah) stated:

The Path To Gaining Victory Over The Enemies is through learning the sharee'ah and acquiring understanding in the Deen of Allaah, (which applies) to the rulers, the ruled, the elders and the young; and then action upon what that necessitates, and to  abandon that which we are upon of that which Allaah has forbidden.  Allaah (Ta-aalaa) said:

'Verily! Allaah will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves (by committing sins and by being ungrateful and disobedient to Allaah).' [13:11]

So whoever wishes for victory and assistance from Allaah, and to make the word of (Allaah) uppermost, then he should change that which he is upon of disobedience, sins and opposition to the command of Allaah.  And your Lord has stated:

'Allaah has promised those among you who believe, and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the earth, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practise their religion, that which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islaam). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me.'[24:55]

Allaah (subhaanah) did not say that He has made a promise to those who attribute themselves to the Quraish or the Arabs or those who build castles and excavate petrol....rather he binded this affair to true Imaan and righteous action-regardless whether they are Arabs or non Arabs....[2]

The Evil Consequences Of Miserliness

Allaah said:

''And of them are some who made a covenant with Allaah (saying):'If He bestowed on us of His Bounty, we will verily, give Sadaqah (Zakaat and voluntary charity in Allaah's Cause) and will be certainly among those who are righteous.  Then when He gave them of His Bounty, they became n*gg*rdly [refused to pay the Sadaqah (Zakaat or voluntary charity)], and turned away, averse.  So He punished them by putting hypocrisy into their hearts till the Day whereon they shall meet Him, because they broke that (covenant with Allaah) which they had promised Him and because they used to tell lies.'' [Surah Tawbah; Ayah: 75-77]

Imaam Sadi (rahimahullaah) mentioned in his Tafseer that Allaah punished the Munaafiqoon by putting hypocrisy in their hearts; because they made a covenant with Allaah that they will spend in charity if given of Allaah's Blessings, but they became n*gg*rdly and turned away after they were given of His Blessings.

Therefore, the believer is warned against this evil characteristic of the Munaafiqoon, such that he makes a covenant with his Lord to do such and such, but when he reaches his goal he fails to fulfil that; for indeed, it may be that Allaah will punished him by putting hypocrisy in his heart just as he punished the Munaafiqoon. [See Tayseerul Kareem Ar-Rahmaan Fee Tafseer Kalaam Al-Mannaan]

O Allaah, grant us Tawfeeq so that we spend our wealth in acts of obedience.

O Allaah, protect us from turning away from spending without a valid excuse.

O Allaah, protect us from craving for unnecessary and worthless worldly possessions.

O Allaah, grant us Tawfeeq, so that we spend our wealth to provide our offspring with a good Islamic education, and that we do not give precedence to spending on worldly goods over spending to provide our offspring with the correct Aqeedah and Manhaj of the Salaf.

O Allaah, grant us tawfeeq, so that we do not become wasteful and extravagant after you have bestowed bounties upon us.

O Allaah, grant us Tawfeeq, so that we do not delay any obligatory act performed by way of wealth without a valid excuse.

O Allaah, protect us from all spending that increases our love for this short lived Dunyaah, and fill our hearts with remembrance of the  hereafter and that we suffice ourselves with only what is necessary.

The Prohibition Of Overspending And Extravagance During Weddings And Other Joyous Occasions

The Waleemah is a Prophetic Sunnah intended for the purpose of announcing a marriage and manifesting joy and happiness during this noble occasion.  However, it has to be carried out within the boundaries of the Islamic rules and regulations; and neither being wasteful nor extravagant.

Allaah (Ta-aalaa) said:

'But spend not wastefully (your wealth) in the manner of a spendthrift.   Verily, spendthrifts are brothers of the Shayaateen (devils), and the Shaytaan (The Devil) is ever ungrateful to his Lord.'[Surah Al-Israa; Ayah 26-27] [1]

Shaytaan does not call the person to (anything) except to every blameworthy habit.  So he calls him to miserliness and to refrain from spending, but when the person refuses to obey him, he calls him to overspending and extravagance; but Allaah calls to the most just and balance of affairs, and praises the person for that, as He (subhaanah) has stated about the Ibaadur-Rahmaan;

'And those, who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor miserly, but hold a medium (way) between those (extremes).'[Surah Furqaan; Ayah:67] [2]

Therefore, economizing in spending and not being extravagant and wasteful is an obligation during marriage ceremonies and other than it. These squanderers, who waste meat and food and dispose of it in waste bins should be reminded that there are hungry people hoping for a mouth full of (food) and a scrap of bread.  (They should be reminded) to fear Allaah and to fear Him in their gatherings, and that they do not become the cause of Allaah's blessings being stopped.....[3]

To be continued......Inshaa-Allaah

Whoever does not read the stories of the Salaf and the path that they tread, he can never tread that path.  It is befitting for a person to know and understand that the nature of an individual (character) is a thief.  If a person leaves his nature with the people of his time, his nature will steal from theirs and he will become similar to them.  But if he reads into the lives of the Salaf his nature will join theirs and he will learn from their character....(Telblees Iblees)

The following are just a few examples from the past and present day scholars informing of their love of knowledge and their preference of it over relaxation.

First:

It was reported by Ibn al Qayyim in his book: 'Rawdatul Muhibeen' I was informed by my Sheikh (Ibn Taymiyyah), he said: When I became sick the doctor said to me: Verily your research and Islamic lecturing increases your illness.  I (Ibn Taymiyyah) replied: I can not stop, and I will debate you in your knowledge! If a person becomes happy and joyful doesn't this strengthen their soul or spirit, and as a result wards off illness? The doctor responded: Of course.  So I (Ibn Taymiyyah) said: Verily my spirit is pleased with knowledge and it strengthens my nature and due to that I find relaxation.  The doctor responded: This is something our knowledge doesn't apply to.

Second:

It was reported by Sheikh Muhammed bin Hadee to some of his visitors that he was told a story by Ahmed Al Hakimy, the brother of Sheikh Hafith Al Hakimy:

One year while Sheikh Hafith Al Hakimy was on Hajj or during Ramadan in Mecca, he was looking for the book titled: "Creation of The Servant's Action" by Imam Al Bukhari. While in Mecca he was informed that someone had arrived from India with a copy of the book and that he had given it to the library there in The Haram.  Sheikh Hafith visited the library and requested to borrow the book under the condition that he would not leave the Haram and that he would return the book the following day after the rising of the sun.  He took the book and requested for someone to bring him paper and a pen.  He sat and made his own copy of the book.  Then he continued to memorize the book until Fajr. After Fajr he rested for a short period of time and then woke up.  Upon waking, he returned the original book to the library and said: Here is your original, and here is an extra copy (the copy he himself wrote) and the book is in my head (memorized).

May Allah grant Sheikh Hafith Al Hakimy ease in his grave and raise him with the righteous ameen.

It was also mentioned by Sheikh Ahmed An Najmee the following:

We (as young boys) were instructed by our teacher Sheikh Abdullah Al Qara'wee to memorize the Quran in preparation for the month of Ramadan.  We would memorize during the day, and toward the end of the day we gathered to test one another in memorization.  I (Ahmed An Najmee) memorized a hizb for that day.  Surprisingly, Hafith Al Hakimy memorized a full Juz!  We continued for a full month, and everyday Hafith would memorize a full Juz completing the entire Quran in one month!

Third:

It was reported by Sheikh Abdul Kareem Al Kudair:

I was informed by one of the widows of Sheikh Abdul Azeez bin Baz that one day he returned home from the hospital, and upon entering the house she noticed that he was very tired and exhausted.  After falling to sleep, she changed his alarm clock from the normal set time for night prayer, to a later time.  The Sheikh woke at his normal time without the clock and inquired why the clock did not work.  His wife informed that she had changed the time in order for him to relax.  He admonished her and said: Relaxation is in Paradise!

(Lecture titled:"Radiant Pages From The (examples) of The Worship of The Scholars")

Imam ash-Shaafi'ee: 'There is nobody except that he has someone who loves him and someone who hates him.. So if thatýs the case, let a person be with the people who are obedient to Allah `azza wa jall!ý ( - as they love and hate for the Sake of Allah and they are not unjust)

- The shahaadatain is a test for the slave's heart;

- The salat is a test for the slave's limbs, and ability to manage himself and his time;

-The zakat is a test for man in his wealth;

-The fasting is a test for the slave's ability to leave off desires for the sake of His Creator and Lord;

-The Hajj is a test for the slave's ability to bear hardship, difficulties of traveling in the way of Allaah

Our Salafus Saaleh, They Are The Examples To Follow

Shaqeeq Al-Bal-khee (rahimahullaah) said  to Al-Haatim Al-Asam (rahimahullaah), 'You have accompanied me for a long time, so what have you learnt?'  He replied, 'I have learnt eight affairs:

The First Affair:

Indeed, I have looked at all the creation and every person has a beloved one; but when he reaches the grave his beloved one is separated from him.  So I took my beloved one to be my good deeds so that it may remain with me at the grave.

Al Asam (rahimahullaah) said:

I looked to everyone who has something he considers valuable and keeps safely.  So I looked to the saying of Allaah:

'Whatever is with you, will be exhausted, and whatever is with Allaah (of good deeds) will remain' [16:96]

So whenever I had something of value, I would spend it in Allaahýs cause so that it may remain with Him for me.
