Nothing Is To Be Asked For, By The Face Of Allaah, But Paradise


Jabir ibn Abdullaah (May Allaah be pleased with him) Narrated that the Messenger of Allaah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam)

Said: ıNothing to be asked for, by the Face of Allaah, but Paradise.ı (Related by Abu Dawud)


Relevance of the chapter to the book of Tawheed

This chapter states that one if duty bound to observe good behavior towards the Name and Attributes of Allaah, and thus nothing of the worldly needs is to be begged by Allaahıs Honorable Face. Rather only Paradise, the ultimate purpose, is to asked for by the Face of Allaah. This act is deemed one of the corollaries of monotheism.

General meaning of the Hadeeth

The Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) prohibits Muslims from asking Allaah by His Honorable Face for a lowly matter or a worldly need by way of rendering veneration to Allaah. Further, the Prophet (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) teaches Muslims that Only Paradise, the Ultimate purpose, it to be asked for by the Face of Allaah.


Relevance of the Hadeeth to the Chapter.

This Hadeeth shows that one is prohibited to ask Allaah by His Honorable Face for anything but the Paradise.

Lesson Drawn from the Hadeeth

The Hadeeth Proves that Allaah is Possessed of a Face appropriate for His Majesty, as it is the case with all His Attributes.

People are enjoined to glorify Allaah and show respect for His Names and Attributes.

It is permissible to ask Allaah by His Honorable Face for Paradise as well as for any means conductive to it. However, it is prohibited to ask Allaah by His Face for any worldly need.
