Alhamdulillaahi rabbil 'aalameen

Wa sallallaahu wa sallim 'alaa nabiyinaa Muhammad wa 'alaa aalihee wa sahbihee wa sallaam

wa ba'ad

Assalaamu 'Alaykum Wa Rahmatullaah

First question, I wanted to know from one of the tullaab here or any qawl from the 'ulamaa stating whether or not tahiyyatul masjid may be performed when entering the masjid for the 'eed prayer. I know from the Sunnah is that the Prophet 'alahyi salaatu wa salaam didn't pray any Sunnan before or after the 'eed prayer....

Second question, I wanted to know from one of the tullaab here or any qawl from the 'ulamaa on the ruling of praying the 'eed prayer in the masjid. I know the Sunnah is to pray in a musallah, but here in the UK, I don't really see this being implemented anywhere. So is there any beneficial speech regarding praying 'eed prayer in the masjid?...

BaarakAllaahu feekum, wa hayyaakumAllaah.

The Sunnah for the 'Eed Prayer is that it is not in the masjid, as you have mentioned.  As explained by the scholars, keeping it in the masjid have a number of harms, from the biggest of them is preventing the menstruating women from attending (who have been ordered to attend), since they can not sit in the masjid.

However, sometimes due to weather and the lack of a place large enough owned or rented by the Muslims, they gather in the masjid for 'Eed out of necessity.

In such a case, as is the case with all other times a masjid is attended for other than the salaat, like the attendance of a lesson or something similar, Muslims pray two rak'ahs before sitting down, to the explicit and general statement of the Messenger (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam): "When one of you enters a masjid he must not sit until he prays two rak'ahs."

And as you mentioned the Sunnah for attending the 'Eed prayer is to sit without praying tahiyyatul-masjid.  That's the base ruling.

As a side point of benefit, this shows that there is no tahiyyat al-masjid for musallaas (that are not masjids).  This is the understanding and practice of the Companions during the lifetime of the Messenger (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam), and so fatwaas that oppose this are to be disregarded.

I hope there is some benefit related to your question in this reply, and Allaah knows best.
