Alhamdulillah As Salaathu was Salaamu ala Rasoolillahi Alaihis Salaam.

Assalaamu alaikum wa Rahmathullahi wa Barakaathuhu!

Dear Brothers in Salafiyyah!

Issue of Qunooth during the time of adversity.

I have asked some questions with regard to the above mentioned issue from our noble Shaikh Yahyaa Al Hajoori (Hafidhhullahu Tha'alaa) via one of his students and our brother Muhammad Nawas As Sayalaani.

Alhamdulillah the questions were answered by Shaikh (Hafidhahullah) and it was sent to me by our brother Nawas from Dammaj, Yemen. Since the English brothers who are in Dammaj are busy with their studies, he asked me to get the Fathwa translated into English.

Thus, I attach the copy of Shaikh's reply with this post expecting one of our capable brothers will help us in translating this into English and make us benefit from it, Insha Allahu Tha'aalaa.

I asked this questions on behalf of our Masjid, Masjidul Huda, Dehiwala, District of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The questions as follow:

Assalaamu alaikum wa Rahmathullahi wa Barakaathuhu!

Shaikh, May Allah bestow His utmost mercy on you. We, Salafiyoon in Sri Lanka seek your advice with regard to the issue of Qunooth during the time of adversity.

Noble Shaikh, as you are well aware, as rest of the Muslim world the Muslims in Sri Lanka are also disheartened and saddened about the atrocities unleashed in Philistine.

The Qunooth is being recited in almost all the Masaajid in our country. Hence, people continuously request us to recite Qunooth in our congregation in order to supplicate for our brethren in Philistine.

Since our Masjid, Masjidul Huda is built upon the Manhaj of our Salafus Saelineen (Ridhwaanullahi alaihim ajmaeen), wa lillahil Hamd, we are very cautious when we implement a particular deed in our Masjid.

For this very reason, we are not well aware about this issue and we seek your guidance for this issue.  Our doubts with regard to the issue of Qunooth can be summarized as below:

1.Is it Sunnah to recite Qunooth for when a group or a community of the Muslims in any part of the world face adversities ?

2.If it is Sunnah, then what is the prescribed recital of Qunooth in Sunnah and can we include wordings in that Qunooth in accordance with the circumstances we face?

3. When should the Qunooth be recited, before or after Rukoo?

4. When it is recited is it compulsory upon the people who follow the Imaam to tell Aameen?  Jazakumullahu Khairan was Salaamu alaikum wa Rahmathullahi wa Barakaathuhu.

(The Fathwa is attached)

Barakallahu lakum,

Abu Maslamah As Sayalaani
