Assalamu alaykum!

I have another question, which I vaguely remember, but can not find proof for how I remembered it. I found copies from a book, that were given to me by Imam, who moved into Bosnia, but I do not know where. There on the copies it says that when one receives Salam, he should say Alaykum salam we rahmetullahi we barakatuhu and it also says to answer back in an even nicer manner than you have just received. The thing I remember, but can not find is, that one of these nicer manners is to ask that other person a question in the sort of "How are you doing" or any other question regarding the course of the other persons life. Is this memory true or is any part of it? I mean is there any proof in favour of it, or against it, or saying about its neutrality?
Thank you.

Assalamu alaykum!
