Bismillaahi walhamdulillaahi wassalaatu wassalaamu 'alaa rasoolillaahi wa man waalah wa ba'd:

I have a question concerning saying aameen. Is it from the sunnah for someone to say aameen after his own du'aa' himself?

Someone told me (though I don't remember exactly) that Shaykh Ibn 'Uthaymeen rahimahullaahu said upon doing the sharh of one of Shaykh Bakr Abı Zayd's kutubun (I'm not sure of the name of the kitaab) that it is not from the sunnah when someone makes du'aa' then he himself says aameen to his own du'aa'.

Please clarify in shaa' Allaah.

Jazaakumullaahu khayran wa baarakallaahu fiikum.

Alhamdulillaah..

I heard Allaamah Badee ud deen Shah ar-Rashidee as-Sindi rahimahullaah say in a lecture that after concluding the duaa with salaah on the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam one should finally say Aameen. That is like putting a seal on the duaa. I don't remember if the great Muhaddith rahimahullaah gave any hadith. InshAllaah if someone can post that would be great.

quote:
"Is it legislated to say "aameen" after one's own supplication?

What seems correct - in shaa' Allaah - is: yes.  This is since the meaning of "aameen" as has preceded is in itself a supplication, meaning: O Allaah! Respond!  So it is like making a general supplication after supplicating for specific things.  This also seems correct since it is established that the reader and the listener of al-Faatihah both say "aameen" in and outside of the prayer, since al-Faatihah is a supplication, so "aameen" is said after it..."
(Tas-heeh ad-Du'aa' of Shaykh Bakr Aboo Zayd, p.206)

The shaykh went on to mention three hadeeths mentioning saying "aameen" after one's own supplication, the authenticity of the first two is possible but needs research, the third clearly unauthentic.
