Assalamu'Alaikom

Is creative and fiction writing allowed in Islaam ? I haven't found any fatwa regarding this issue yet.
Barakallaahu Feek

Although not a fatwa, our noble brother Moosa Richardson (haafidhahullaah) answered this question is his lecture in refutation of the Harry Potter books. Maashaa' Allaah, he raised some fine points and I pray that you can get hold of it and benefit. Wa feekum baarakAllaah was-Salaamu 'alaikum, Aboo Abdir-Rahmaan.

Barakalaahu Feek brother.

It is true, as the brother says in the lecture, we have to be truthful in all ways at all times. Fiction is based on lies at the end of the day.

May Allaah (swa) reward you .Ameen.

Wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh,

Here is the question that was posed to Sheikh Abdullah al Ghudayan hafithahullaah as mentioned on the blog of brother Mustafa George hafithahullaah http://salafee.multiply.com/journal

3. Are childrens books that contain fictional stories permissible?
Ans. If these stories carry correct moral meanings, then they are ok.

Wallaahu aalam. Another naseeha inshAllaah. It is better to mention subaanu wa ta'aala after the name of Allaah instead of SWA or SWT. I base this on the understanding that if saying salaah and salaam after the Prophet's name sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam is not permissible then using short-forms for glorifying Allaah would also not be good. Here is the link to the fatwas on using abbreviations for the salaah and salaam on the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam

JazakAllaah khayr.

Question: What is the ruling regarding reading or writing fictional stories and those which arouse the imagination? And if some of them [aid in] rectify[ing] social problems, then is this permissible?

Response: Fictional stories are from lies which occupy the time of the writer and the reader without benefit, so abandoning busying oneself with them is preferable. And if writing and reading [fictional stories] occupies oneself from that which is obligatory then this [fictional stories] is prohibited. And if it occupies oneself from that which is recommended then this [fictional stories] is disliked. In any case, the time of the Muslim is valuable, so it is not permissible to spend it in that which there is no benefit.
