Innalhamdulillaah wa salaatu wa salaamu ala arasoolullaahi, salallaahu alayhe wa ala alihe wa sahbihe wa sallam, wa ba'ad:

I would like to know the level of responsibility upon a muslim whom lives remotely from the masjid of getting to the masjid for the salawaat; most preferably the masjid which is upon salafeeyyah.  It is understood that the obligation is to establish the salaah in jama?ah whenever one has the ability to do so.  It is also known that it is better to be within the vicinity of the masjid and I am sure we all wish for such a ni?amah.  Yet from my experience with this, being near the masjid usually means being within the confines of the urban environment.  What comes with this type of environment is only limited by the minds of those whom perpetrate the heinous acts that we often read about.  Unfortunately at times we are directly affected by the ills of this kind of environment.  Anyway to get to the heart of the matter, is it considered sinful to willingly be far removed from the masjid by distance when one has the option not to be?  In this case I mean that the person can live near the masjid because of an available residence but decides to take residency remotely for reasons of sincere concern for the safety and well being of himself and his family.  I know this questions sounds a little straightforward given the circumstances that I have described but the best answer is a sure one.  In this case a sure answer would not come from me but from someone of knowledge who can look at this without being partial and give the answer based on the necessary evidence.  I know about the hadeeth of the blind man in regards to his obligation of coming to the masjid since he could hear the athaan from where he lived but I think that it is not applicable to the details outlined in the situation that I have described above.  Any guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated wa Barakallaahu Feekum, Ameen.

Akhukum Fillah:
