wa 'alaykumus-salaamu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh...
| quote: |
Sprinkling water after burial is from the sunnah of rasulullah salallahu alayhe wasallam( it has an authentic mursal narration ) refer to irwaa ul ghaleel 2/206 |
|
Its 3/206 (in my printing), and Shaykh Al-Albaanee ruled on the hadeeth that it is dha'eef. His statement about one of the chains that is mursal that it is "saheeh al-isnaad" does not mean that he considered the hadeeth to be saheeh. It only means that the chain is saheeh up to the taa'bi'ee, who narrates it from the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam). The majority of the scholars of hadeeth hold that the mursal hadeeth is a kind of dha'eef hadeeth since basically it has a broken chain. But perhaps the person who made the above statement considers the mursal hadeeth to be saheeh, or that it is strengthened by other chains (if so I would be interested in seeing it discussed). However, it is important to note that al-'Allaamah al-Albaanee (may Allaah have Mercy on him) graded the hadeeth dha'eef when he listed it in Irwaa' al-Ghaleel(#755, 3/205), since someone reading the above without referring back to the source may conclude the opposite. And Allaah knows best.

jazakallah khayr the latter quote was an exerpt from a book called salaatul janazah , I appreciate also if someone could tell the authenticity of this hadeeth, which i found in a book (fiqh shafiie), and is this hadeeth also included in shaykh albaanee's rahimahullah irwaa ul ghaleel as dhaeef? Jabir narrated that the Prophet?s grave was sprinkled and that the one who sprinkled the water over his grave from a water- skin was Bilal bin Rabah . He began where the head was and sprinkled it to his feet. (Baihaqi) and i remember reading about the grave of ibrahim ( the son of rasulullah salallahu alayhe wasallam ) was sprinkled with water (but i can't recall it now) does anyone have the hadeeth ? and is this too in irwaa ul ghaleel? barakallahu feekum wassalamualaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh

This is mentioned in as-Sunan al-Kubraa of al-Bayhaqee (3/585, Rushd) by way of Muhammad ibn 'Umar al-Waaqidee, whose hadeeth are dha'eef jiddan (extremely weak) and unacceptable since he was accused of lying.

This is the mursal narration referred to in my first post. To summarize what is in Irwaa' (#755): 1 - Mursal hadeeth about the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) sprinkling water on the grave of his son, from the Musnad of ash-Shaafi'ee (1/218) and as-Sunan al-Kubraa of al-Bayhaqee (3/411), by way of Ibraaheem ibn Muhammad, whose hadeeth are dha'eef jiddan. 2 - Mu'dhal hadeeth (two missing narrators in a row, worse than mursal) with the same meaning, from Maraaseel Abee Daawood and as-Sunan al-Kubraa, its chain is authentic up to the taabi' at-taabi'ee: Muhammad ibn 'Umar ibn 'Alee ibn Abee Taalib. 3 - Mursal hadeeth with a similar meaning from al-Bayhaqee's as-Sunan al-Kubraa, its chain is authentic up to the taabi'ee. 4 - The hadeeth of Jaabir mentioned above [dha'eef jiddan]. #1 and #4 are not usable as supporting narrations due to the severity of their weaknesses. Thus that leaves us with #2 and #3, the better of them being the mursal narration. Without anything to strengthen it, it remains dha'eef, according to the majority of the scholars who did not accept the lone mursal narration as a proof, and Allaah knows best.

The same hadeeth is found on the authority of 'Aa'ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat (#6146, 6/187, al-Haramayn). Its narrators are all thiqaat (reliable & trustworthy), except for Muhammad ibn Zuhayr al-Ubullee, whose hadeeths are considered hasan, as al-Albaanee mentioned in as-Silsilah as-Saheehah (7/99). So then the hadeeth is at least hasan, in shaa' Allaah. Al-Albaanee mentioned that he did not know of this narration when he gathered the chains and discussed them in Irwaa' al-Ghaleel (3/205-206), and that when he found it he was quick to mention it (in the Silsilah) as something that strengthens those narrations (mentioned earlier in this thread). [A message was relayed to me from Abu Talhah, directing me to the above source, so may Allaah reward him well!]

BaarakAllaahu feekum for the information. So what i understand from the above mentioned proofs is that ,it is from the Sunnah to sprinkle water on the grave after burial but without any beliefs attached to it such as some people believe that it makes the deceased feel cool. wassalaamu 'alaikum
