as-Salaamu alaykum- This question was asked to our father and Imam Aboo Abdur-Rahman Muqbil bin Haadi { rahimallah } in his benefitcial kitab " ejaabata al-saail ala ahaama al-masaail " How should a man pray with his wife,should she pray beside him or behind him? The shaykh replied by stating this is a good question and that he was asked by a young man when they were in travel this question. The youngman stated " I PRAY WITH MY MOTHER, HOW DO WE MAKE THE SALAT WITH A WOMAN RATHER SHE IS YOUR MOTHER OR WIFE OR OTHER THAN THEM? " The shaykh responded " YOU PRAY AS IF CONSIDERED BY YOURSELF IN THE ROW AND SHE PRAYS BEHIND YOU THE SAME WAY AS IF SHE IS BY HERSELF IF THERE ISN'T FOUND ANY OTHER PEOPLE PRAYING WITH THEM BECAUSE THIS IS CONSIDERED A ROW EVEN THOUGH SHE IS BY HERSELF. IT WAS RELATED ON ANAS { radiallahu anhu } said : I PRAYED ME AND A YOUNG LAD BEHIND THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH { sallahu alayhi wa salaam } AND A OLD WOMAN BEHIND US." Then also what is reported in the hadeeth in Muslim { THE BEST ROWS FOR THE MALES ARE THE BEGINING AND THE WORST ROWS FOR THEM ARE THE LAST ROWS AND THE BEST ROWS FOR THE FEMALES ARE THE LAST ROWS AND THE WORST ROWS FOR THEM ARE THE BEGINING.} end of the shaykhs quote.
