Zaad ul Musalleen: A series of fatwaa on the Salaah by al-Allaamah ibn Uthaymeen

Introducing, bi idhnillaah, a selection of fatwaa on the salaah by the Imaam, the Salafi, al-Faqeeh, al-Allaamah Aboo Abdillaah Muhammad ibn Saaleh ibn Uthaymeen, from the book ?Mukhtaaraat min fataawa as-Salaah? published by Dar ibn ul Jawzee (Damaam, K.S.A.)

And all success lies with Allaah!

quote:

[Q. 8] In the masjid some of the brothers come a few minutes before the iqaamah and then stand and wait for the prayer to begin and they do not perform the tahiyat ul-masjid, so what is the ruling regarding this?

[A. 8] If the time period is short such that it is not sufficient to pray tahiyyat ul-masjid, then there is nothing wrong in what they do. And as for when they do not know when the imaam will arrive, then it is better to pray tahiyyat ul-masjid. So if the imaam comes and the prayer is established and you are in the first rak?ah then cut it and if you are in the second rak?ah then complete it quickly.

[Q. 9] What is the ruling regarding a person praying the fareedah in one place then moving to another place to pray the nawaafil?

[A. 9] There is nothing wrong with this. Rather the ulemaa say: When a person prays the fareedah in one place then it is necessary for him to move to another place , using as a proof the hadeeth of Mu?aawiyah (radiallahu anhu), ?That the Prophet (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) ordered that a prayer should not be connected to another prayer until a person leaves or speaks.?

And due to fact that the Sharee?ah distinguishes between the fareedah and the naafilah. However if the rows are packed then is not appropriate to harm the people by moving from the place of the fareedah to another place to pray nawaafil there.

Also it is better for a person to pray all his nawaafil at home, due to the saying of the Prophet (sallallaahualaihi wasallam), ?The best prayers of a man are in his home, except the obligatory?, and due to the fact that the Prophet (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) used to pray the nawaafil in his home.

[Q. 10] When a person enters a masjid while the muadhin is giving the adhaan, should he pray before the adhaan is finished?

[A. 10] It is better to repeat after the muadhin, then supplicate after that with whatever is reported and then to perform the tahiyat ul-masjid. However some of the ulemaa have excluded the one who enters the masjid while the muadhin is giving adhaan on the day of Jumu?ah in which case one should pray tahiyat ul-masjid in order to hear the khutbah. And they stated the reason is that hearing the khutbah is waajib whereas responding to the muadhin is not waajib.

[Q. 11] Is it permissible for the praying person to leave the masjid in his area and go to another masjid far way due to the fact that the other Khateeb has expansive knowledge of the deen and delivers the khutbah in a good way?

[A. 11] It is better for the people of a locality to pray in their masjid in order that they may know each other and build bonds between each other and support one another and please the heart of the imaam who leads them in prayer. As for when he goes to another for a religious benefit such as obtaining knowledge or listening to a khutbah which has greater impact and contains more knowledge then there is nothing wrong with it.

And the companions used to come to prayer with the Prophet (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) in his masjid to obtain the virtues of the imaam and the masjid, and to gain knowledge, then they would go and pray in their locality, as Muaadh (radiallaahu anhu) used to do during the time of the Prophet (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) while he (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) knew and did not reject that.

N.B. The question numbering is mine
