As-Salaamu' Alaikum wa Rahma'tu'Llahi wa berta khatu salafiyeen wa salafiyaat,

If someone can ask one from the 'ulamah as-salafiyoon, is it permissible to take from the books and magazines of the people of innovation in regards to foods such as potato chips, cereals, cakes, non-alcoholic beverages (of course) such as soda-pops and juices for examples, that they contain impermissible ingredients, when we can't trust them in regards to anything else in the affairs of islam, language, or other than this.

I question this because we find salafis taking from "Horizon" magazine which is an iqwaani-based magazine, and magazines other than this, regarding the halaal and the haraam.

1) the answer regarding impermissible ingredients in some foods is in the fatwa  of Shaykh al 'Outheymin (rahimahou llah) in the book "liqaa al bab al maftouh", number 117 (if i am right), and the title of the qst is:

"ma houkm al akalaat allati tahtawi 'ala ma youssammi bilhalaam(gelatin)
aw al djilatiin al baqarii"? (excuse if i got a word with the wrong harakaat). (na'am it is about gelatin, but if u read it u'll see how it answers greatly to ur qst)

in it it explains a great fa-idah, and all salafiyyoun should be aware of it, so as to make all those pple making al halaal harram through their books, silent.

if any of the brothers/sisters could put this fatwa on line here, it would be great, as for me i do not dare write it in arabic as the harakaat will sometimes be wrong.(maybe it is on the shaykh's site).

2/ i advise all salafiyoun seeking 'ilm about any matter not to come back to books of devient pple, as they have no knowledge nor insight in any subject of the religion (or biased ones), and they are not pple one should tyake 'ilm from, and this is from the manhaj of ahlous sounnah wal jama'a.
So look, in the fatwa i gave u (the source), the answer is present, clearly.
So those types of qsts about food have already been asked to the 'ulama and they answered it with knowledge blessed by Allah 'azza wa jaal.

let's always go back to them, and not pay nor give any attention to deviant unknowledgable pple, who claim to guide pple through their books which have only nonsens in it.

wa assalamou 'alaykoum wa rahmatoullah.

an other point about food which is not directly linked to your question, but still very interesting, taken from www.fawta-online.com

Grocery store selling foods containing pig-meat ingredients

Question: Is it permissible to sell food items which contain pig-meat or alcohol?, since there are many Muslims in America who own or work in grocery stores where they sell beer, pig-meat and tobacco.

Response: It is not permissible to sell that which is haraam nor eat or use it; and from amongst them are the items mentioned in the question.

And with Allaah lies all success and may Allaah send prayers and salutations upon our Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam) and his family and his companions.

as-salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh,

you may also show to those brothers/sisters who read those magazines these statements of sh. ibn baaz (rahimahullaah):

http://www.assalafi.com/binbaaz02.htm
http://www.assalafi.com/binbaaz03.htm

returning back to the people of knowledge is a great benefit. it makes the matters easy on the people, as in this case, where we don't need to have those books/magazines in order to determine these matters.

also, the isnaad is the weapon of the believer, so let us look to who we should be taking from: is it ash-shaykh ibn baaz (rahimahullaah), or the ikhwaanee society of north america (isna) and their magazine ikhwaanee horizons?
