As-Salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaah...

Advice for those Working to Call the non-Muslims to Islaam
Using the Muslims' Larger Gatherings (like 'Eed, etc.)

After hearing about some of the problems our brothers in some places in America have faced in handling this issue, I thought it would be helpful to offer some advice for those who are vigilant and want to take advantage of the Muslims' larger gatherings and use them to attract the non-Muslims to our beautiful religion...

Firstly, calling to Allaah is one of the most virtuous acts a Muslim partakes in and cooperates with other Muslims in.  Allaah says what means, "And who is better in speech than one who invites others to (the worship of) Allaah, and says, 'I am one of the Muslims'" Fussilat:33

So every Muslim should be eager to cooperate in any possible way of guiding non-Muslims to Islaam, within the guidelines of da'wah done in accordance to the Sunnah of the Messenger (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam).

Secondly, it is not the case that everyone who invites the disbelievers to Islaam (no matter what method he uses) is doing something correct simply because of his goal.  Our religion requires noble goals and noble means to those goals as well.  So our actions in calling to Islaam have to be sincere, permissible, and aid our religion in actuality and not harm its image.

Thirdly, every Muslim should be known to his neighbors, and he should know his neighbors.  He should know his neighbors' names, and some basic things about them.  He should give them all the rights of a neighbor.  The Muslim must not harm his non-Muslim neighbor in any way, and must practice his religion within his family life in a way that shows the people around him the beauty of Islaam.  So a Muslims should keep his house clean, inside and out, and his family should be respectable and modest when going out.

For example, if the local custom denotes that people have a right to the parking spot directly in front of their houses (even as an unwritten law), then Muslims should not park in the public spaces directly in front of their neighbors' houses (when they can avoid that), if that would cause the people to view them as selfish and careless.  The Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) said, what means, "I swear by Allaah he does not have (complete) eemaan" repeating it three times, "the one who does not spare his neighbor from his atrocities." [Muslim]

The Muslim must live his life in obedience to Allaah in a way that shows the beauty of the religion to those around him.  He must be afraid of acts of disobedience, esepecially when it marrs the image of his religion.  So when he behaves in an upright manner among the people around him, when he invites them to his house and speaks about the Right of Allaah over the creation, they will respect him and lend their ear to his words.

Organized and large-scale da'wah efforts without the Muslims involved living their religion individually are only viewed by the non-Muslims as lip-service!

to be continued, in shaa' Allaah...

wa 'alaikumussalaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh akhee,

JazaakAllaahu khayraa for this akhee.

You did give some important start-up advice in keeping the rights of our neighbors:
quote:
Thirdly, every Muslim should be known to his neighbors, and he should know his neighbors.  He should know his neighbors' names, and some basic things about them.
And the advice that follows this may insha'Allah cause them to be guided to Islaam.
