Topic: When to disparage the callers to innovation

  As salaamu alaikum,

This question may have been answered already, and I've seen it answered in general, but I'm looking for something more specific.  I've seen the advice from the various salafi scholars (Shaykh Rabee' in particular)warning us not to be harsh and not to ridicule the shaykhs that people follow lest they close their ears to you and cut you off.  By the grace of Allah I am trying to adhere to this advice, but I sometimes come into a jam when the ones I am speaking to invite me to sit with their shaykh.  I know that their shaykh or imaam is upon error but I don't want to cut off the lines of communication by insulting them and I definitely don't want to sit with them.  How can one wiggle out of this jam?  Barakallahu feekum.

  Wa alaykum as salaam akhee,

There's a difference between insulting and giving advice gently. You can politely tell them the reasons why u don't want to listen to their shaykh. One technique is to ask them politely could u please let me know who this Shaykh is, what are his qualifications, who has given him tazkiyyah and then u can go on from there. You can say something like, "You know brother, Imaam Ibn Sireen the great Scholar of the earlier time said that This is knowledge of the deen. So look who u take ur deen from."

And if u know why their Imaams are upon error then give them proof from Qur'aan and Sunnah with wisdom. If they still cut off lines of communication then you have done your job. If someone doesn't listen to proof from Qur'aan and sunnah even when wisdom and gentleness is used then that's the best you can do. Further you can probably tell another Salafee brother to talk to him if he doesn't listen to you. Beyond a certain limit you really can't do much for those who still don't listen because after all guidance is in Allah's Hands.

Look at the examples of Rasoolullah sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam and also the examples of previous Prophets. Read about Ibrahim alayhis salaam and how he gave Dawah to his people. Our job is to make duaa for their guidance, firmly believe that guidance is in Allaah's Hands, sincerely call them to Sunnah, use Wisdom while making these efforts and be patient.

InshAllaah other brothers from the Duaat and Ta'alib ul ilm can give more information and suggestions and correct me if I've said anything wrong.

Allaah Baarak feek.
