The Verdict on Testing People by their Views on Specific Individuals By Shaykh Zayd ibn haadee al Madkhalee Question; Is it from the methodology of the salaf to test people by [way of asking them about specific] Individuals? Answer; Yes, it is from the methodology of the salaf. If there is some discrepancy concerning a person he is to be tested by the people of the sunnah. "What do you say concerning so and so of ahlus-sunnah, being a person that he knows and is aware of. So if he testifies to his rectitude and speaks well of him internally and externally then he is not of the people of deviance or innovation. And if he dispraises him or utilizes deceptive means and says for example "I have no knowledge of him" while he knows him and then continues to dodge the issue, it is known that he is not on the manhaj of the salaf ahlus-sunnah wal-jamaa'ah. so testing the people by way of individuals is allowed there being no problem with that.
