Topic: Does the Mufti of the KSA deny the appearance of the Mahdi?

  As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah,

The front cover headline of a local Muslim newspaper grabbed my attention: "Saudi Arabia: Grand Mufti Denies Mahdi Will Appear"

and then it reads:

"The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdul-Aziz Aal-Alsheikh, has decried claims to the effect that the long-awaited Mahdi would appear soon and that he would appear in the Grand Mosque of Makkah."

"He told the Saudi newspaper ALMADINA that this is a matter should not bother people, and advised Muslims to be concerned more with carrying out their duties of performing their daily prayers, paying the Zakat that is due by them, going for the Haj, and other more important articles of faith, and to avoid such frivolities."

"He said that whoever says that he knows when the Mahdi would appear is telling a lie, adding that even if and when the Mahdi does appear, he would not come with anything new, because Islam is complete and nothing could be added to it, adding that he would just be like any other member of the Muslim Ummah."

"The Grand Mufti said some people are just looking for any pretext to push their agenda, such as the killing of others, and that such elements should be shunned."

I suspect that the above headline is misleading. Can someone please clarify Sheikh Aal-Alsheikh's true position concerning the appearance of the Mahdi?

Jazakum Allahu Khair

  بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم

The position of the shaikh is clear from that which he said. 'he knows when the Mahdi would appear is telling a lie'and 'even if and when the Mahdi does appear, he would not come with anything new, because Islam is complete and nothing could be added to it, adding that he would just be like any other member of the Muslim Ummah' And that he mentioned that people are just looking for reasons to kill other people. As what does and has taken place in the past with regards to the 'Juhaymaan' inccident where the blood of the muslims was spilled becaused of someone claiming to be the mahdi and was infact false. And there are many people who still claim to be the Mahdi and Eesaa bin Maryam as the brothers of Birmingham know well!!!

  As Salaamu alaikum wa Rahmatullah

Shukran Abu Salmaan for your response

Inshu'Allah I will be writing to the newspaper editor, so I want an explicit statement from Sheikh Abdul-Aziz Aal-Alsheikh proving that the headline was a distortion and did not reflect the Sheikh's opinion about the Mahdi.
