As-Salaamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullaahi wa Barakaatuhu!

Our Sheikh Saalih Ibn  Fawzaan Ibn Abdillaah Al-Fawzaan was asked the following question.

What is the precise definition of innovation and when is it said that this person is an Innovator?

Innovation as it was said by the prophet [sallalahu alaihi wa salam]:

?Whoever introduces something into this affair of ours that is not in it then it is rejected.?  [1]

Every newly invented matter is an innovation and every innovation is misguidance. So innovation, it is everything that does not have a basis in the book of Allaah nor the Sunnah of the messenger of Allaah [sallalahu alaihi wa salam]. So what is newly introduced from the acts of worship and ideologies and other than that from the affairs of worship then this is innovation that which does not have an evidence from the Book or Sunnah then it is a newly introduced matter, and every newly introduced matter in the religion is an innovation and every innovation is misguidance.

Briefly, I forgot to quote the source of the extraction, it was extracted from our Sheikh Saalih Ibn Fawzaan Ibn Abdillaah Al-Fawzaan [hafidhahullaah] book entitled:
