  Asslamu Alaykum,

Hope everyone is in their best of Emaan and Health inshallah

I have come across many people who follow Tahir  ul-Qadri. He is the founder of an organisation called Minhaj ul Qur'an and has been given the name of Shaykh ul Islam. i have been on various occasions been invited to his talks and also to a conference called Al Hidayah.

I do not attend any of his talks or go to his conferences as i don't know if his Akeeda is right, could someone please advice me?

Also, when does some one get the title Shaykh ul Islam?

Jazakum Allahu Khairan

  Walaykumus salaam,

He is most certainly not upon the truth.  Rather, he follows the 'aqeedah of the Barelwis.  This is a group that, as a whole, is considered to be outside the fold of Islaam by many of the 'ulamaa.  Like the Bahais, Druze, Raadifah, etc., they had their origin with deviated Muslims but their beliefs have branched off so far that they now constitute another religion different than that of the Muslims.  As for the individuals within this movement, then like the case of the Raafidah Shee'ah, we can say that the group are kuffaar but the individual person you meet is a Muslim until the hujjah is established upon him.

As for this individual, then like most Soofee "scholars" he does not actually have anything to qualify him as a scholar of Islaam.  He writes many books, some of which contain major shirk and kufr, some of which are harmless treatises on topics which are themselves beneficial (though typically things he does not have the knowledge to speak about).  He is in tight with the international Soofee movement, having studied with the father of the infamous Soofee innovator Muhammad al-Alawi al-Maliki and Dr. Qadri himself granted an ijaazah to the caller to major shirk and kufr, Habib Ali al-Jifri.  He is also heavily involved in the politics of Pakistan, may Allaah protect our brothers and sisters of that land from his fitnah.

He is NOT someone to listen to or whose conferences should be attended if you want to protect your Islaam.  I knew some of his followers somewhat and they are the ones who granted him the title of "Shaykhul Islaam."  That is just a word; there is no set criteria, really anybody can use that word for anyone they want to (and the Soofees use it a lot).  You can also find more information on him in the following thread:

If you are invited to one of his conferences again, then stay as far away as possible.  If the people inviting you are friends or loved ones, then you need to warn them about what this man is calling to as you should fear for them.

Aslamu Alaykum

Thankyou for the advice,

i have been told in the past that if you have been given an invitation you should not turn it down, so what would a person do in this case?
